MISSION:To formulate, test and release investing slurries and binders in order to assure consistent ceramic shell structures.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Formulation.Objective: accurately formulate investing slurries and binders (most binders made at LPC-S)Typical Activities:Mixes materials for a variety of slurries and binders based on established formulas and procedures.Calculates and formulates partial investing batches.Open and close valves on bulk chemical tanks.Testing and Release.Objective: evaluate formulations to assure compliance with control limits and release for production or storage.Typical Activities:Complete lab procedures.Review testing results.Analyze slurry/binder formulation problems.Modify investing material preparations to meet control limits.Release materials meeting testing criteria.Set-up, Maintenance and Storage.Objective: set up and maintain slurry and binder pots, equipment, and storage and transfer tanks.Typical Activities:Coordinate filling of investing pots with slurries and binders from released formulations.Maintain investing material during plete minor maintenance of investing equipment.Sets up and maintains slurry and binder containers and plete logs, records, and control charts; inputs slurry and binder lot information into computer.Take materials inventory and order materials.Train and coordinate the work of Investing Helpers, Utility Aides; reviews their work in the investing formulation area.Safety.Objective: take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.NOTE: For job positions that require respiratory protection (more than a filtering face piece - dust mask): In compliance with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division Personal Protective Equipment standard for Respiratory Protection, OAR 437, Div.2/I 1910.134 and Oregon Health Division Rules for the Control of Radiation, OAR 333. Div. 120 (333-120-300 through 330), certain tasks within this job position require/may require the use of a NIOSH-approved respirator. An individual will not be assigned to these tasks if the person is not able to work under these conditions. Respirator selection will be based on the work performed, exposure information, duration of use and any other relevant factors. If a tight-fitting respirator is required, facial hair, temple pieces on glasses or other items that interferes with the face-to-face piece seal of the respirator are not permitted.Typical Activities:Adhere to plant and department safety rules.Safely operate all equipment and tools.Identify and report safety problems.May be required to handle hazardous waste.Performs other tasks as directed.TRAINING:Training is provided on the job.PCC's Fork Lift Driving Safety Certification Training.Must pass certification test.May be required to complete hazardous waste management training.ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:Basic knowledge of the investing process, as demonstrated by the competent performance of Shell Processor, Investing Helper or Utility Aide-Intermediate duties, is preferred, OR an equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.Basic ability to follow instructions, read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.Basic understanding of chemistry is desirable.Ability to read, interprets, and follows specifications including Process Control Procedures and Test Material Requirements.Ability to work independently and to work as a team member.Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing eighty to one hundred pounds and occasionally up to one hundred and twenty pounds.Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes and other elements for extended periods of time.MAJOR PLANT DIFFERENCES:1.
