Columbia University in the City of New York: Columbia University Irving Medical Center: Mailman School of Public Health: Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health Location 02 Open Date Nov 23, 2023 Salary Range or Pay Grade $300,000 - $350,000 Description Professor and Chair, Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health Position SummaryThe Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Chair for the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health to provide academic and strategic leadership and build upon the department's preeminent position in research, teaching and service. The Chair will provide leadership and mentorship for all full-time core faculty as well as part-time faculty in the Department. The Chair will report to the Dean of the Mailman School of Public Health.It is critical for the next Chair to chart a vision for 21st century global health and, amplifying its commitment to health in New York City, develop new, successful approaches for sustained research collaboration in existing and emerging fields. The Chair will provide leadership for all faculty in the Department and assure the financial well-being of the Department.This position requires a strong leader with a proven track record of scientific investigation and program development and demonstrable commitments to interdisciplinary public health science and to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. The Chair must collaborate across departments, centers, and schools to generate and support outstanding public health science that is consistent with a vision towards the future. In addition, they should be an excellent manager of people and resources, as well as a great recruiter and mentor of faculty. The Chair is charged with supporting principal investigators; recruiting and retaining diverse and outstanding faculty and staff; generating successful research funding processes and promoting norms of interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusiveness; encouraging ethical research and effective financial practices; and ensuring outstanding mentorship and feedback to faculty and staff. In addition, all Department Chairs advise the Dean in a role of co-leadership of this interdisciplinary school. Qualifications Minimum Degree: PhD, MD, or DrPHAdditional attributes of the ideal candidate also include: National/international recognition as a scholar in Population and Family Health with a proven track record of scientific investigation and program development. Demonstrated leadership and management expertise within an academic institution with previous budgetary responsibility and faculty leadership roles.Credentials commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment in the Mailman School of Public Health at the level of associate or full professor.A recognized record of research and scholarship, including a track record of external funding and a focus on interdisciplinary approaches.A solid grasp of mission and priorities for a Department of Population and Family Health within a top tier school of public health and academic medical center.Demonstrated capacity to mentor, support and foster teamwork for junior faculty, staff, and students.A strong commitment to students that is reflected by active and visible engagement in campus activities.Proven commitment to diversity, inclusion, human rights, equity, and justice.
