Join us as we work towards meeting and exceeding the growing needs of our diverse communities, further our lifesaving strategic goals in a rapidly changing environment, and expand our impact on the local, national, and global communities we serve.Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Enterprise Laboratory Services (ELS), the Vice President, Applied Laboratory Sciences (VP-ALS) will function as the top scientist within ELS. The successful candidate is a visionary thinker with the ability to anticipate future trends in molecular and genomic research, and the evolution of testing technologies for immunohematology, infectious diseases, quality control, and HLA/HEA.The VP-ASL is responsible for shaping the scientific vision for ELS and effectively translating it into a development and operational strategy, ultimately leading to creation of intellectual property and the launch of new commercial products and services. The VP-ASL will provide scientific leadership and direction to a multidisciplinary team of Laboratorians/scientists and be the main scientific liaison with other science centers within the enterprise (LFKRI, CCS, TRDL) and with outside stakeholders.This position will be located in Rye, NY as of January 2025Develop the long-term research strategy and goals for ELS. Identify and prioritize research opportunities that have the potential for high-impact clinical applications. Drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge translational research related to molecular and genomic technologies.Execute the research strategy with discipline and focus to ensure success, clearly communicating goals and priorities, empowering and holding team accountable for behaviors and results.Lead and oversee research projects focused on molecular biology, genomics, and related fields, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes. Oversee the integration of genomic data into personalized medicine approaches. Foster collaboration with internal and external stakeholders leading to technical innovation, and commercial success.Maintain scientific and technical expertise through familiarity with scientific literature, attending conferences, and developing relationships with thought leaders.Continuously assess the competitive landscape and emerging scientific trends, integrating relevant findings into strategic planning leading to commercial applications. Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry standards ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.Provide insight and expertise on the regulatory pathway for approvals of new tests and technologies.Communicate regularly and effectively with other leadership in the enterprise including laboratory management, staff, department heads, and other key interface staff members.Support the offering of continuing education to our Transfusion Services Community.Advise and contribute scientifically to the enterprise's intellectual property strategy.Lead a high-performing team of Laboratorians/scientists.Recruit, mentor, and develop the next generation of scientists and researchers.Oversee and provide scientific direction to direct reports, ensuring scientific and career growth.Communicate with senior management and external parties to support business development objectives, including venture investments, technology licensing, and M&A.Cultivate relations with other science leaders and groups within NYBCe (LFKRI, CCS, TRDL) and outside partners institutions (academic institutions, local and national businesses, industries and corporations and state and federal granting agencies) to translate ELS’ scientific capabilities into compelling partnership proposals and collaborative projects.Represent the enterprise in key scientific discussions and presentations with potential partners, clients, and at scientific meetings or conferences, effectively communicating the value and scientific backing of our technologies.Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively to support research and development activities.Secure funding for research initiatives through grants, partnerships, and other funding sources.Participate in new business development and marketing activities promoting new technologies. Education:Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genomics, or related field. MD/PhD preferred.Experience:Twelve plus years’ experience in a health care environment which must include laboratory experience and research experience.Preferred experience in blood banking and/or transfusion medicine.Extensive experience in translational research and molecular/genomic implementation.Validation and audit handling experience preferred.Licenses / Certifications:NYSCOQ for Laboratory Director preferred. Molecular Genetic Testing, IRL, HLAKnowledge:Strong knowledge of GMP compliance and quality.Strong knowledge of CLIA and State DOH.Strong knowledge of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations. Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.Skills & Abilities:Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary research teams.Proven track record of securing research funding and managing budgets.Excellent communication and people skills.Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.Ability to work in a demanding environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.Ability to manage and work with sensitive and confidential information and maintain confidentiality.Enthusiastic about advancing scientific knowledge and improving patient outcomes.Collaborative and team-oriented with a commitment to fostering a culture of innovation.Proven history attracting and developing talent both within and outside direct team; ability to communicate clearly and effectively to direct and motivate team and others.Excellent interpersonal skills - e.g., active listening, collaborative, and relationship building with the ability to drive decisions through consensus, influence change, and effectively resolves conflicts.For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $275,000.00p/yr. to $300,000.00p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.Unless otherwise specified, all posted opportunities are located in the New York or Greater Tri-State office locations.
