Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Company, as a Refrigeration Plant Operator in the Facilities/Enginerring & trades department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.In the absence or vacancy of a Master Refrigeration Plant Operator, operates and maintains the central refrigeration system. Repairs and maintains building utility systems and appliances; fabricates and assembles components of central refrigeration systems. Essential Job Functions:Operates the chiller plant to optimize the efficient production of cooling for the medical centerMaintains the central plant chilling equipment to promote efficient operations, minimize down time and maximize the equipment’s useful lifeMaintains the water treatment system effectively to control freezing, organic growth, rust, scaling and dirt etcUsing hand tools, powered tools, and welding equipment, fabricates and assembles components of central refrigeration systems according to blueprints or schematic drawings and knowledge for operations of refrigeration systemsPerforms welding including Arc, Gas, HeliArc and spot weldingAdjusts and repairs central air compressorsPerforms minor maintenance of equipment used in the performance of dutiesRequisitions materials and supplies as needed in the absence of Master Refrigeration Plant OperatorKeeps working areas neat, clean and safeCommunicates with patients, visitors, and other hospital employees with tact and courtesyOffers assistance to patients and visitors requiring special assistanceMaintains patients rights to privacyFollows through on all assigned duties until completionEnsures safety of patients, visitors, and other hospital employeesMaintains personnel appearance in accordance with Departmental Policy on dress and uniformCompletes departmental required paperwork in timely and eligible fashionPerforms other duties as requested by senior managementQualifications:High School diploma or equivalentSuccessful completion of recognized apprentice program as Building engineer or equivalent progressive experience in building repair and maintenanceFive years of experience with large refrigeration equipment systems including five years maintaining the medical center’s refrigeration plantExperience in welding with qualifications for certificationAbility to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writingKnowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the jobMust be able to work from ladders and scaffoldsMust be physically capable of performing the work expected in an efficient mannerMust have knowledge of safety rules, practices and equipmentMust have the ability to communicate effectively and work with other peopleMust be capable of strenuous physical activityPosition Details:Job Type/FTE: Full-time (1.0) ; 8-hour shiftsShift: DaysUnit/Department: Facilities / Engnrng &Trades - Hyde ParkCBA Code: SEIUNo Visa Sponsorship AvailableWe’ve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899.
