Job Category Finance Position Summary This position is located on-site in Liberia. The Lead, General Compliance, Firestone Liberia, will be responsible for handling a wide variety of legal and compliance matters for Firestone Liberia, LLC (the 'Company'), including managing and working collaboratively with outside counsel to efficiently and effectively handle the Company's litigation docket, drafting and negotiating contracts, providing general legal support and advice to management, monitoring legislative developments, ensuring the Company's position is adequately represented to government stakeholders, and implementing and maintaining an effective ethics and compliance program. This role reports directly to the General Manager of Firestone Liberia, with a dotted line to the Associate General Counsel, Corporate Services for Bridgestone Americas, Inc. Responsibilities The Lead, General Compliance shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties: Serving as lead legal counsel for the Company. Efficiently and effectively managing outside counsel to handle the Company's docket of litigation matters in a cost-efficient manner. Communicating developments and status to management and other internal stakeholders in a timely and effective fashion. Providing general legal advice to Company management on all aspects of Company operations, including (without limitation) employment matters, supplier/service provider agreements, contracts, government relations, compliance. Evaluating the needs and goals of internal clients and devising commercially practical and creative solutions for achieving clients' goals whilst minimizing risk. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, including supplier and contractor service level agreements, MoU's, and consulting agreements. Representing the Company in its engagements with the Government of Liberia. Monitoring and alerting Company leadership to legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the Company. Independently handling and tracking a large and fluctuating number of matters/projects. Must have experience overseeing projects on a time sensitive basis. Educating and training Company teammates/employees on a variety of topics, including ethics and compliance. Creating and maintaining an internal governance program that supports Bridgestone Americas initiatives towards the procurement and regulation of sustainable natural rubber. Minimum Qualifications A law degree (J.D. or LLB) A license to practice law A distinguished member of Liberia society Seven or more years of professional law practice experience, with significant experience in Liberian legal matters. Strong knowledge of and familiarity with Liberian history and customs. High ethical, moral, and personal standards in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others. A team player, capable of multi-tasking and independently prioritizing and overseeing numerous matters concurrently to satisfactory completion. Preferred Qualifications Experience with the Government of Liberia, including the Ministry of Justice, an advantage Others Computer literacy: Excellent knowledge in computer Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English Bachelor's degree; 6 y+ years of relevant experience including 3-5 years management or direct/indirect leadership experience Or Master's degree; 4+ years of relevant experience including 2-4 years management or direct/indirect leadership experience Bridgestone is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer.
