POSITION SUMMARY: Acts as principal liaison between visitors and an administrative office of a department. Provides direction and assistance, requiring thorough knowledge of departmental organization and procedures. Coordinates work of clerical staff, training new employees, scheduling and assigning work and the like. TYPICAL DUTIES: Receives visitors, patients and/or staff members, ascertains their needs and directs them accordingly; exercises tact and diplomacy, often under stressful conditions. Answers telephone and provides information, exercising tact and discretion to maintain good relations; relays department information that may require independent judgment and initiative. Performs such clerical duties as: scheduling meetings, appointments and conferences; making travel arrangements; sorting and routing mail; maintaining files and office supplies; compiling and typing reports. Coordinates the work of lower-level clerical staff; orients and trains new employees; schedules and assigns work; checks completed work; resolves discrepancies and problems as directed; assists in special projects as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High School education and 3-4 years related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
