*0.8 FTE, 32 hrs/week, 8-hr shift varies between the hours of 11a-3a, every third weekend, and holiday rotation**Base pay is $26.50/hr plus applicable shift differentials. Benefits eligible.Position requires a signed contract acknowledging 12-month paid training program and commitment to remain in this position for additional 18 months after training program complete.Position is staffed in the Emergency Departments and Urgent Cares.Emergency Department locations are Main Campus and Lewis CenterUrgent Care locations are Main Campus, Hilliard, Dublin, Marysville, Westerville, East Columbus, Canal WinchesterThe LPN provides technical nursing care to acute and chronically ill children from the age of birth to 21 years and selected adult patients under the direction of a Register Nurse (RN) Care Manager, and in accordance with the Ohio Board of Nursing Law and Rules. Under the direction of the Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care Practitioners, assists in the evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care of patients with minor and major cutaneous trauma, as well as orthopedic injuries. Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of the patients and familiesCollaborates with the RN Care Manager directing the patients care regarding appropriate tasks/nursing interventionsImplements nursing interventions according to established standards demonstrating competence in specified nursing careAdministers and documents medications by all routes, i.e. oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, transdermal, rectal and aerosol, utilizing the five rights and all other related safety recommendationsIn collaboration with the Practitioner, evaluates individual patient care needs related to the cutaneous wound(s) in relation to depth/degree of injury, and orthopedic injuries in relation to degree of injury, the need for specialty services/consultation/referral and facilitates referral processPerforms procedures under the direction of the Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Practitioner and in accordance with a written practitioner order.Initiates, reinforces, and documents individualized home going instructions including follow-up, related to wound care, cast splint care, and other orthopedic appliances as appropriateDocuments according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.Engages in the workplace community by functioning as a team member to support patient care within scope of training and competency, by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staffAssists practitioners with educational opportunities of residents, medical house staff, and medical students in suturing techniques and wound care in the emergency care settingProvides observational experience for students, observing the rights and dignity of each patient and family.Suture Orthopedic RequirementsProgram requires up to a one (1) year on-boarding training program and Memorandum of Understanding Expectations employment commitment of eighteen months (18) to the Suture Ortho Program following completion of the on-boarding training program. (In total a 30-month commitment to program)Internal Training Program: Emergency Service Suture Orthopedic Program training program in consultation with Division of General Pediatric, Plastics, and Orthopedic SurgeryDemonstrates proficiency in laceration management and orthopedic procedures and applicationsDemonstrates sterile and aseptic techniques, as appropriate, in the performance of and/or assisting with procedures and interventionsAs part of duties, permitted to access medication rooms within assigned department. Administers appropriate local anesthetic for wound closure in accordance with hospital policy and under the direction of the Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Practitioners and in accordance with a written order. Possess the knowledge of dosages, desired effects, side effects, and adverse reactionsAdminister tetanus vaccines as ordered by the Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care PractitionersEducation: High School graduate Graduate of an approved school of practical or vocational nursing and licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of OhioLicensure: Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of OhioMust complete an Ohio Board of Nursing approved medication test, such as NAPNES (National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Service) or OAPNES (Ohio Association for Practical Nurse Education Service.)Active Ohio driver's license.Certifications: Current BLS-CPR Certification. Must obtain and maintain PEARS certification as determined by Program Supervisor/Program Director.Must complete an Ohio Board of Nursing approved medication test, such as NAPNES (National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Service) or OAPNES (Ohio Association for Practical Nurse Education Service.)Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills, must complete annual Suture Orthopedic Competencies, Suture Labs and In-Service Education requirements.
