The Document Imaging Service Center (DISC) was developed by the Boston Public Schools STRIVE Program. DISC provides relevant and meaningful paid and unpaid internships to Boston Public high school students with significant disabilities, and at-risk youth, and has done so for the past 15 years. All DISC interns participate in real-world work and these opportunities are offered year-round. In great part, the continued success of DISC internships is due to the strong partnership that exists between STRIVE/DISC and the City of Boston's Division of Youth Engagement & Employment. DISC is a stand-alone component of the Boston Public Schools STRIVE Program and it is supervised by Donna Hannon, who has participated in City of Boston youth program funding since 1994. It's been a wonderful longstanding partnership that has yielded successful outcomes for students from the disabilities community, who would not have had such experience otherwise. The Document Imaging Service Center (DISC) was created to meet the individualized educational needs of Boston Public Schools high school students with significant disabilities and at-risk youth, aged 18-22 years. Job coaching, travel training, and reasonable accommodations are built in to the work experience for SuccessLink youth employees who might not be a match at other internship sites. This objective is achieved by providing a real-world meaningful work experience to a special population of unique learners. All youth employment participants are identified by STRIVE staff members and must be between the ages f 18-22. They must have a significant disability or be considered at-risk youth. They must be able to travel to DISC independently. They must participate in a formal interview with Donna Hannon, including a situational assessment. Applicants will receive an invitation to participate in a paid internship if it's a potential job match.
