Project Description: Join the Distribution Transportation Strategy & Delivery team to support Xcel Energy and its customers adopting and leveraging new technologies, associated with Electric Vehicles. This team in the Distribution Engineering department are engineers and leaders responsible for the conceptualization, developing business use cases, and conducting research on EVs and grid preparedness. We create direct impact by finding the best technical and economic solutions to support and benefit the power grid, large customers, and EV owners. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience with all the engineering, safety, and stakeholder engagement efforts to successfully and safely develop distribution plans for the adoption of electric vehicles for residential, commercial, fleet and public charging customers. You will work closely and be mentored by the Principal Engineer and/or Project Manager who lead the deployment of these plans. Your role will include studying potential project sites, reviewing designs, checking safety considerations and hazards, leading tasks within the team, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. This position is open to candidates who are looking for a year-long or summer-only internship and gives preference to those located in the Denver Metro Area. The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer and 10-20 hours/week during a school semester. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work part-time during the school year. The ideal candidate is an undergrad Junior or Senior entering a Graduate Program, or Graduate Student pursuing an Electrical Engineering Master's degree. It is preferred the candidate has taken classes and/or has technical experience in electrical circuits, machinery and/or power systems. Preference will be given to local candidates. We are a hybrid work environment and will meet in-person every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the summer at the Lipan Distribution Center, located at 1123 W 3rd Ave, Denver, CO 80223 Minimum Requirements: Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program, studying areas such as electrical, mechanical, civil, and chemical engineering.
