Labor Relations Specialist Rochester & Finger Lakes, NY Region About AFSCME Council 66 Council 66 is a part of AFSCME (the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees), and it has over 80 local union affiliates that represent more than 8,000 public service workers across Upstate New York and the Hudson Valley. Council 66 coordinates contract negotiations, grievances and arbitrations, improper practice charges, organizing, political action, issue advocacy, officer training, and communications on behalf of our members. The Council is headquartered in the Rochester area and has four other offices in Syracuse, Buffalo, Albany, and Hudson Valley. This is a full-time position based in Rochester, New York and will support local unions around the Rochester and Finger Lakes region. Key Responsibilities: Negotiate labor contracts Facilitate grievance procedures Prepare and present grievance arbitrations File and defend improper practice charges Participate in labor-management meetings Attend membership meetings Working knowledge of relevant labor law Communicate leadership's goals and objectives Conduct union trainings for local union officers, stewards and activists Qualifications: Strong commitment to building the labor movement Extensive experience and demonstrated ability in labor relations, labor organizing or related work Automobile and NYS valid driver's license Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience and training necessary to conduct contract negotiations Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people Strong commitment to facilitating & fostering equitable, inclusive & diverse workplaces Leadership skills to educate and motivate members Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex situations Strong public speaking skills Ability to write briefs and to author letters and contract language Proficient computer skills Pay & Benefits: The starting base salary is $70,000. The total annual salary is $81,780 with car allowance, auto insurance reimbursement, weekly per diem and annual bonus. In addition, excellent benefits are provided which include paid time off, health, dental and vision coverage, a defined pension plan, life insurance, gas/oil change reimbursement and cell phone expense coverage.
