JOB QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Will be required to enroll and successfully complete first year education in Apprentice Program. EXPERIENCE, JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Must have a basic understanding of electricity. Knowledge of considerable hazards that exist in falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic and falling objects. Must have knowledge of the proper use of protective and safety equipment MAJOR JOB TASKS: This position is one of active training in line work with a focus on line construction and service. Before entering this training step, the individual will have demonstrated his/her ability to work effectively on a pole. Works on poles limited to new construction and de-energized lines. Under emergency conditions an Apprentice I Line Technician may be assigned to assist a Construction Crew Foreman, First Class Line Tech, or Line Tech on assignments involving energized lines. Performs all ground activities and will be able to: frame poles and hang guys on poles, hang transformers, reclosers and other equipment on de-energized poles only, string and tie-down conductors, lay and make connections of underground cable, prepare mounts and install transformers for new underground installation. Ensures that vehicles are kept clean and orderly and are stocked with adequate material. Becomes familiar with policies and safety manuals. Complies with safety rules and regulations. Operates all transportation equipment in a safe manner and looks out for the safety of others. Cooperates with all employees in maintaining good working relationships and high morale, exchanging ideas, information, and job experience. Will be expected to continue to perform duties of previous positions as necessary and as assigned. TheApprentice I Line Technicianshall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative. EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Consumer/Members: Courteously answers member inquires, and, if unable to do so, directs them to the appropriate person, making every effort to gain their increased understanding and acceptance of the Cooperative plans, programs, and policies. Public Officials: Works with and assists Highway Departments, state and local; law enforcement agencies, state, county, and city when necessary. Works with city inspection personnel to enable jobs to be completed. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have valid driver's license without violation, which would prohibit insurability. This position is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from low to loud. Hours may be irregular and include nights, weekends, and holidays. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to learn first aid, CPR, and pole top rescue. This position is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
