This job was posted by : For more information, please see: Job Title: Assistant Teacher Supervisor: Head Teacher & Program Director Summary: Responsible for assisting the head teacher with general supervision and management of classroom. Help to ensure that the classroom promotes the development of each childs physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in a nurturing environment. Be a model of exemplary professionalism, work ethics, and a team player. Principle Responsibilities: Assist in the development of weekly plans and implementation age-appropriate curriculum (lesson plan) to nurture and stimulate all domains of child development. Assist in providing a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the childrens learning and growth. Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand. Supervise the classroom when the lead teacher is out of the room. Help perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children. Treat all children with respect and dignity, make them feel safe and secure; provide opportunities for learning through play, decision-making, and social interaction with their peers. Provide responsive care to all children by helping to adapt routines and plans to the interests and needs of the group. Assist head teacher with implementation of appropriate early childhood education experiences. Actively work to support full inclusion of children with diverse abilities and disabilities, as well as those from all socio-economic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Help with general housekeeping tasks. Help to maintain a neat and organized classroom. Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene; change diapers and assist in toilet training. Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/caregivers. Report evidence of suspected abuse/neglect to head teacher, program director, and proper authorities. Report classroom concerns to head teacher and/or program director in a timely manner. Attend mandatory staff meeting/trainings Participate in ongoing educational development opportunities. Participate in ongoing development and evaluation of programs goals and objectives. In accordance with our team philosophy, carry out or assist with other tasks, as needed, in addition to the duties listed on this job description. Physical Requirements: Lift up to 40 lbs. Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping Climb up and down stairs Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children Work with children on the floor Work outdoors in any variety of weather Perform light duty cleaning Requirements: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent at least 18 years of age and completion of a 30-hourcourse in child development, or one higher education course (minimum three credits) in early childhood development to be successfully completed within one year of employment. Child Development Associate (CDA) or associate degree preferred. Experience and knowledge in child development and early childhood education services Ability to work effectively as a team member, maintain confidentiality, and be flexible. Effective written and oral communication skills Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with parents, children, and staff Commitment to be actively engaged in a continuing process of professional development Obtain CPR and first aid certification within six months of employment Sufficient transportation to meet job requirements
