The Student Persistence Counselor is responsible for providing student counseling, advising, assessment and intervention services to increase student academic success and persistence. Salary Schedule Placement:Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E1 02($49,686- $66,832) based on experience. This position is on a non-tenure track and is ineligible for non-probationary status due to finite funding and duration as provided in Alabama Code 16-24C-4(3)(b). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides academic and personal/social counseling and advising to assist students in dealing with obstacles that affect their educational, occupational, social, and personal lives. Assists in the development of a college-wide retention plan. Develops and implements early warning strategies to assist students. Provides advisement and counseling services for students on academic warning, probation and/or suspension. Provides academic, personal, and career counseling services to students Refers students seeking assistance to the proper internal and/or external source. Tracks and follows-up on non-returning students and student completers. Administers student surveys. Maintains accurate documentation of all services, conducts follow-up, and prepares summary reports each term. Works with other counselors to provide services to students as appropriate. Serves on technical, advisory, or college committees as assigned by supervisor. Conducts New Student Orientation classes. Assists in the development and implementation of objectives and tasks for the Title III Student Persistence initiative Assists in the evaluation of objectives and tasks for the Student Services. Works hours or schedules assigned by the supervisor. Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Dean of Students and the President. The Student Persistence Counselor will be expected to work a flexible schedule. This job description is a general statement of required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular basis. Qualifications REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING: Masters Degree with a major in Education, Counseling, Psychology or related field from a regionally accredited university Three years of experience as a counselor, academic advisor or similar position.
