A non-profit 501(c)(3), Dorcas International offers adult education, language learning, job training, employment services, citizenship and immigration services, refugee resettlement, clothing and household needs, and more. The Employment Counselor will be responsible for: intake of new clients into the Employment Services Department; explaining the programs and services offered by the department to new clients; completion of client paperwork for program enrollment; evaluation of the skills, educational level, and basic employability skills of clients; resume development; assisting clients with applying for job and preparing for interviews; and conducting basic work readiness presentations. This position will also be responsible for supporting clients at their job sites upon placement, data entry of client information, and quality assurance of the back-up documentation supporting data reported out to funders and the agency. The position also updates Employment Services data on a weekly basis; maintains and updates client checklists; assesses, prioritizes, and documents client plans and goals; builds client agreement on employment steps and refers to Employment Services staff for career laddering, training programs, on-the-job training, and job placement as appropriate; works with other departments to promote Employment Services and recruits additional students who need employment assistance; coordinates and makes appropriate referrals internally and externally for needed resources and services; ensures proper follow ups; has face-to-face interactions with clients and other parties as needed. The candidate should have the following: Minimum of a Bachelors Degree or 3 years equivalent experience Bilingual in French preferred Valid drivers license required Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative relations with clients Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative relations with partner agencies and local businesses Interest in assisting people to achieve personal/vocational outcomes and to provide client-centered supports Ability to effectively send and receive verbal and written communications (including narrative report writing) using the English language; basic math skills and basic computer skills Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to keep accurate documentation Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in the absence of an immediate supervisor Flexibility with respect to work hours and change Experience working with, and respect for low-income urban families Ability to work independently and meet established deadlines Respectful, with an appreciation of different cultures and backgrounds Why should you apply?
