Description Officiates various sporting events, games, and competitions to maintain standards of play. Ensures game rules are observed. Signals participants and other officials to make them aware of infractions and to regulate play. Communicates effectively with recreation staff, coaches, and participants. Maintains a safe playing environment. Examples of Duties General knowledge of the principles, practices and policies of municipal recreation programs and athletics activities. Working knowledge of the facilities and equipment needed in a recreation program. Working knowledge of office practices and procedures. Working knowledge of department or program policies, regulations and procedures. Skill in customer service including problem-solving and conflict resolution. Ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Ability to work independently and reliably complete assigned tasks. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, supervisors, and other employees. Typical Qualifications Must be eighteen (18) years of age. Exceptions to the minimum age are provided if the candidate has a Youth Employment Certification from the NC Department of Labor. Minors may be employed on a Part-Time, Seasonal, or Intern basis.
