Job Summary: The Meat Packing and Processing Manager is responsible for assisting in overseeing all aspects of slaughterhouse operations, including animal handling, processing, quality control, and compliance with regulatory standards. The manager ensures that the facility operates efficiently, safely, and in accordance with industry best practices and legal requirements. Key Responsibilities: Operational Management: Supervise and coordinate daily activities of slaughterhouse operations, including slaughtering, meat processing, and packaging. Ensure that operations are conducted in a timely and efficient manner, optimizing throughput and minimizing downtime. Develop and implement operational procedures and standards to improve efficiency and productivity. Maintain a clean and sanitary protocol with workers and workplace. Staff Management: Recruit, train, and manage staff, including slaughterhouse workers, butchers, and other personnel. Assign tasks and monitor performance to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards. Conduct regular staff meetings and performance evaluations. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal welfare, food safety, and workplace safety. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and industry standards. Facilitate inspections by regulatory agencies and address any issues or non-compliance findings. Quality Control: Oversee quality control procedures to ensure that meat products meet safety and quality standards. Implement and monitor hygiene practices to prevent contamination and maintain sanitary conditions. Address and resolve any quality issues promptly. Safety Management: Develop and enforce safety protocols to protect employees and minimize workplace hazards. Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions. Ensure the proper maintenance and use of equipment and machinery. Animal Welfare: Ensure humane handling and treatment of animals throughout the processing chain. Implement and monitor animal welfare protocols in line with ethical standards and legal requirements. Inventory and Resource Management: Manage inventory of supplies and equipment, including ordering and budgeting. Monitor and control costs associated with operations to meet financial targets. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of operations, including production volumes, inventory, and regulatory compliance. Prepare and present reports on operational performance, including any issues and corrective actions taken. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in animal science, food science, business management, or a related field (preferred). Experience: Several years of experience in meat processing, including experience in a supervisory or managerial role. Knowledge: Strong understanding of meat processing, HACCP, food safety regulations, and animal welfare standards. Skills: Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure. Proficiency in using relevant software and technology. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects. Tolerance for exposure to animal products and potential odors associated with meat processing.
