SUNY Maritime College Location: Bronx, NY Category: Administrative & Professional Posted On: Thu Sep 19 2024 Job Description: The Mental Health Counselor is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and has as its primary mission providing short term solution focused therapy, including assessment/evaluation, crisis responding, outreach and prevention services, and consultation to faculty, students, staff and families. Description of duties is as follows:Provide brief individual and group psychotherapy and crisis intervention to SUNY Maritime studentsConduct mental status assessments and make recommendations regarding students' psychological welfareMaintains accurate and current records of all activities, including clinical recordsProvide skills training to members of the community, both informally for individuals and in a formal manner for staff, faculty and studentsParticipate in departmental meetings and committees, represent department through college and division committees and activitiesDevelops, trains and participates with staff or students in presenting workshops to promote interpersonal and academic skillsProvides faculty and staff consultation and resources in their work with students and encourages their participation in providing students both individual and group assistanceParticipates in the initial and on-going training of residence hall and other appropriate staffOversees Graduate intern and provides supervisionSupervises the Peer Educator group on campus and assists in them carrying out Counseling Services mission to students on campusParticipation in Summer Sea Term program aboard the Empire Estate Training Ship on an annual basis Job Requirements:Required QualificationsMaster's degree in counseling, Social Work or related fieldActive (Unrestricted) New York State Driver LicenseMust have a minimum of 3 years' experience providing mental health treatmentComputer skills including Microsoft Office, and proficient typing skills for documentation in the Electronic Medical RecordOutstanding customer service skillsAbility to multitask performing several activities simultaneouslyMust be self-directed and motivatedPreferred Qualifications:Completion of Ph.D./Psy.D in Psychology, LCSWCollege counseling experience.Certification to supervise Graduate Interns (SIFI) Additional Information:Classification/Salary Range: The Mental Health Counselor is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range is $70,000 - 75,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the UUP Benefits Summary).
