JOB TITLE: Investigator Deputy MUSTS: Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Colorado Driver s License upon employment. Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree) and current First Aid/CPR certification (or be able to obtain within 3 months of hire). Must have Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification and a minimum of 3 years of law enforcement officer experience. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of operations and information obtained during the course of duties. Must be able to pass an extensive background check and drug test, inclusive of marijuana. Must possess the physical ability to run for long periods of time if necessary and must also possess te agility to contain and control the suspect once captured. Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, government regulations and reports. Must also have the ability to write professional reports, business correspondence, policy and procedure. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from the general public, other agencies, courts, attorneys, and command staff. SKILLS: Current firearms training/qualification and experience and/or training in special investigations, preferred. Also current arrest control training and knowledge of use of force standards. Comprehension of specialized training in various aspects of investigation above and beyond that required of a patrol deputy. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Aptitude to compute rate, ration, precent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in any given situation. Physical Skills: Regularly required to talk and hear, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. Occasionally run, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and detect odors. Regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Vision required by this job, with or without correction, includes near vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and DUTIES: This position performs technical and lead work in the areas of criminal investigation, evidence collection, and analysis. Investigates serious crimes requiring significant man-hours and follow-up. Responsibilities may include training employees, directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems where serious incidents require it. Other responsibilities include: Performs the duties of Deputy Sheriff - Investigations Supervises deputies responding to major crime scenes Supervises the search for missing persons under suspicious circumstances Reviews reports for investigations to include citations and cases presented to the District Attorney for charging Conduct pre-employment background checks, internal audits, and internal affairs investigations or administrative reviews Supervises special operations such as search warrant operations or execution of search warrants Creates documents for office use Researches and reviews policy and procedure Performs any other activity assigned by the Investigations Sergeant, Undersheriff, or Sheriff Answers deputies questions regarding law, procedure, case classification, and how it is applied to given situations Prepares written reports of investigations and files charges as needed Works closely with the District Attorney s Office and other agencies Reviews and provides input into deputies investigations as needed Maintains open communication with supervisors and administration concerning special situations Studies Office rules and regulations, maintaining a high level of knowledge Stays up to date on training, best practices, and court decisions Provides suggestions to deputies to improve their nowledge and performance as it relates to investigations and reporting Serve on various task forces, investigations teams, special investigations This position will also require training in the use of communication equipment, firearms, tactical equipment, bullet proof vests, baton, restraint equipment, fire control equipment, OC spray or any other apparatus assigned by the Sheriff s Office.
