The Bilingual Housing Specialist will have the primary day-to-day responsibility to perform a wide range of clerical duties in support of the Housing Authority (Agency) operations and staff. The Housing Specialist is responsible for reviewing submitted applications and documentation, performing eligibility determination and recertification, taking and assigning work orders, in put work orders and closing work orders in the housing software, perform unit inspections, documenting resident complaints and concerns and where applicable, clearly communicating to residents the policies of the Housing Authority. The Bilingual Housing Specialist is responsible for managing a portfolio of program applicants on a continuous basis, adhering to program regulations and deadlines, as well as procedural expectations as set by the property manager. The Housing Specialist must be detailed-oriented, have excellent communication skills, compassionate, and tech savvy. She/he must be organized, have excellent problem-solving skills, be proficient in the use of modern technology, and comfortable working in fast-paced environment. Importantly, the Housing Specialist must have a strong work ethic, be eager to learn about new technology and the ability to work with a team on a highly-rewarding project. The Housing Specialist must be passionate about social work and providing housing assistance to vulnerable populations in Paterson. Priority will be given to bilingual candidates because of required needs of current resident population. Education and/or Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each competency satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job competencies High school diploma or GED required; a minimum of two (2) years experience performing responsible receptionist/clerical duties is required. Associate degree from an accredited college or university. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The ability to read/write reports, business correspondence and process manuals, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. -Bilingual/bi-literate skills required English/Spanish Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet), and must be able to learn other computer programs as required. Salary range $33k - $36k
