Position: VIC Steward Status: Full-time (40 hours/week) and part-time positions (temporary, seasonal, non-exempt) Department: Visitor Interpretative Center Reports to: Visitor Interpretative Center General Manager Pay: $18.00 per hour VIC Description Managed by Paul Smith's College, the VIC (Visitor Interpretative Center) embodies experiential learning through the exploration of art, nature, and recreation at the 3,000-acre nature center and interpretive site, with more than 25 miles of maintained hiking, running, skiing, and snowshoeing trails.? Nearly 25,000 visitors travel to the VIC annually to partake in self-guided walks/hikes/other trail use and/or to participate in program offerings.?Indoor facilities include an educational exhibit area, classroom, library, art gallery space, and retail store.? Description: Paul Smith's College Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) is seeking to hire full and part-time Stewards to provide information and interpretation services to visitors at the center's front desk as well as conducting retail sales, center maintenance, and periodic on-trail walking to orient visitors to the site, its natural history, and ecology. Duties & Responsibilities: Provide excellent, informed, and professional visitor services and public outreach as the point of entry for guests through face-to-face contact and over the telephone. Manage in person and telephone program registrations. Manage inventory and restocking for the retail store. Assist with administrative, maintenance, and logistical needs of the center. Qualifications and Preferences: Knowledge of or interest in Adirondack natural history and ecology. Strong desire to learn, share, and teach about the Adirondacks. Work experience in a related field, including one year of experience with retail sales (operation of cash register) and inventory management?preferred. Experience and interest in working with diverse audiences of all ages. Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, over the phone, in person, and written communication. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Ability to work weekends and events. Reliable transportation to and from work. Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive workplace.
