TITLE: CEMENT FINISHER/LABORER EFFECTIVE DATE: 5.15.2023 EMPLOYMENT STATUS: FULL TIME, REGULAR DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS REPORTS TO: PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SALARY RANGE: $12.50 per hour PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: This is semi-skilled/skilled work in the operation of light and heavy equipment used in the areas of maintenance, construction and/or related skilled manual work. {width='2' align='left'}SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: This is general semi-skilled manual work requiring some special training and experience which sometimes involves the use of some acquired skills. This work also involves performance of a wide variety of semi-skilled activities which are related to the following areas: all types of maintenance, personal service, construction, housekeeping, or other areas as designated by the appointing authority. Duties require a limited knowledge of a particular craft or area of work, and work is performed under limited supervision of a superior in a higher classification. The supervisor provides basic training and instruction in the proper performance of the duties in a manner that does not require continuous and direct supervision. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Finish surface of poured concrete, patch and repair, align forms for sidewalks, curbs, etc. Performs physical tasks involving loading, unloading and moving supplies, materials and heavy equipment. Performs simple equipment, machinery maintenance or operative duties under limited supervision. CDL a plus Performs physical tasks involved in construction, maintenance and repair of streets and highways, buildings and other structures or facilities. QUALIFICATIONS:Any combination of education and experience which is acceptable to the appointing authority, and which is job related; Knowledge of construction equipment and tools; Must be at least 18 years of age; Pass background check and drug screening. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Willingness to perform heavy manual work for extended periods under varying climate conditions. Ability to understand oral instructions. Willingness to perform routine manual work. Ability and stamina to lift heavy articles. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Automotive and construction equipment, concrete finishing tools, carpentry tools, shovels, common hand and power tools. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving vehicles, machinery and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee will be required to work in high precarious places on occasion and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. T e noise level in the workplace is usually loud.
