This program also applies to currently enrolled or recently graduated college and graduate-level students. This program offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and a realistic preview of what it is like to work in local government. The City of Boynton Beach is committed to administering a successful, efficient, and inclusive program that will allow interns to make a positive contribution to the community while gaining valuable work experience. Interns will be exposed to the following: We are looking for an aspiring engineer to join us as a Utility Engineering Intern. Our ideal candidate is a current student in a civil or industrial engineering program. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to learn the responsibilities of a professional engineer and project management under the guidance of employees in the Utility Engineer Division. Ideally the candidate will be in school for Civil Engineering, and is passionate regarding working in the Utility Industry (Specifically Water, Wastewater and Storm water). Civil Engineering is a very broad field in terms of construction, it relates to Heavy Highway construction, Structural construction, Transportation (roadways, and bridges, etc.) Environmental Engineering, etc. Ideally the candidate will be interested in Utilities, and/or Environmental engineering and will have experience in using AutoCAD. Essential Functions The City is offering internship opportunities in the following departments and interns will be completing tasks and functions related to their respective departments: Utilities The Utilities Department is committed to supplying high quality water. Additionally, the department is responsible for the efficient, effective, environmentally-sound disposal of wastewater. This department includes Water Field Operations, Meter Services, Customer Relations, Wastewater, Water Treatment, and Engineering. Ideally the candidate will be in school for Civil Engineering, and is passionate regarding working in the Utility Industry (Specifically Water, Wastewater and Storm water). Minimum Qualifications Eligibility: The City of Boynton Beach Internship Program is highly selective. Only those with demonstrated potential to thrive in their chosen field of study will be invited to embark on this project-intensive journey. Individuals applying to the Internship Program must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university or have graduated within the past two years. Additionally, all applicants must know that candidates will not work remotely. All applicants must hold a clean driving record and full driving license. Preferred Qualifications: Exceptional organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail. Strong quantitative skills and the ability to multitask. Ability to establish effective working relationships with City employees, residents, and community partners. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions on moderately complex matters and complete assigned tasks with minimal direction.
