Role: The Network Engineer is responsible for the administration, design, documentation, testing, and maintenance of Empower Federal Credit Union's network infrastructure, under the direction of the Manager of IT Infrastructure and Network Services.Location: Our headquarters are based in Syracuse, NY. We work in a hybrid model requiring a minimum of 5 days in the office per month.Essential Functions & Responsibilities: 30% Network Design & Implementation: - Lead the design and implementation of network systems, both on-premise and in cloud environments.- Formulate high-level and detailed implementation plans for Cisco technologies.- Manage and complete specific network projects as assigned by the Manager of IT Infrastructure and Network Services.- Develop and enforce network policies and procedures to ensure consistency and reliability.20% Network Operations & Maintenance: - Oversee the day-to-day operations of network systems, including hardware maintenance and performance monitoring.- Create and execute test plans to assess infrastructure performance.- Monitor network efficiency and communication systems to ensure optimal performance.- Prepare and present technical documentation and project requirements to stakeholders.20% Telephone System Infrastructure: - Manage and maintain telephone system infrastructure across various locations.- Handle phone service operations, including adding, removing, and documenting services.20% Network Administration & Improvement: - Administer day-to-day network operations, ensuring data integrity and security.- Collaborate with consultants and IT team members for system upgrades and improvements.- Develop and propose enhancements to service quality and job productivity.10% Specialized Technical Assistance: - Provide advanced technical support for complex system and networking issues.- Perform additional duties as assigned.Performance Measurements: 1. See Dayforce (HRIS) Performance Management for goals upon starting in the role, and annually.Knowledge and Skills: Experience: 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in computer science or a related field, with a strong focus on data/voice infrastructure and Cisco technologies. Demonstrated expertise in an enterprise network engineering role, with a comprehensive understanding of network protocols and technologies, including EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, ELANS, VPN, Ethernet, DSL, SNMP, VoIP, VLANs, and subnetting.Education: An associate's degree or equivalent specialized certification, complemented by relevant vendor-specific training or equivalent experience. CCNA or CCNP certification is preferred but not terpersonal Skills: The role demands a high degree of trust and diplomacy, along with standard courtesy and tact. It involves substantial personal interaction, which may be of a sensitive or personal nature. Responsibilities may include motivating, influencing, or training others. Building and sustaining strong relationships with external contacts, including both companies and individuals, is essential. This often requires the ability to persuasively present ideas and effectively influence others.Other Skills: - Proficient in network administration and technical support.- Knowledgeable in Microsoft, VMware, EMC, and desktop products.- Capable of working independently, managing multiple tasks, and driving projects from conception to completion.- Strong customer service skills with the ability to foster a positive work environment.Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
