Established in 2006, William J. Ostiguy High School is an alternative Boston Public School operated by Action for Boston Community Development Inc. whose mission is to provide a safe, sober and supportive school environment in which youth in recovery can develop the skills and strengths needed for personal, academic, vocational and community success. Join us as an English Language Arts Teacher in creating a supportive and enriching environment for our youth. Key Responsibilities Provide instructions in ELA for high school students, grades 9 through 12 with a focus on promoting an atmosphere of inquiry. Follow the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, city-wide learning standards and Ostiguy High School curriculum guide. Develop materials, assessments, resources and standards for evaluation. Maintain accurate attendance and grading records. Provide a stable learning environment through a focused classroom management approach. Participate in all staff and program development activities. Communicate with students and parents regarding student attendance, academic performance and behavior. Participate in student teacher mediations. Participate in and facilitate after-school activities as needed. Attend all staff meetings Follow all Ostiguy High School policies. Work closely with counselors for behavior management. Perform other related duties as required. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise A Minimum of a Bachelor?s Degree in a related field and one to three years of previous teaching experience with youth is required. ELA Teacher certification is required or must be able to obtain certification within the first academic year of employment. Previous teaching experience in an alternative high school setting is highly preferred. Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team, with fellow staff and with parents. Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required. Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
