Description Benefits Questions Distinguishing Features of the Class Under general supervision, oversees equipment inventory and participates in the repair and maintenance of a variety of park mechanical and motorized equipment, specialized hydraulic or hydrostatic drive equipment; and performs related work as required. Acceptable Experience and Training Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and 5 years professional experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical and hydrostatic drive equipment or related equipment experience. Any equivalent combination of post-secondary education, experience, and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties. Required Special Qualifications Possession of a valid Iowa Class A CDL allowing the operation of vehicles with airbrakes is required within 6 months of employment. Possession of Equipment and Engine Training Council (EETC) certification or related certification within 6 months of employment. Candidates for positions in this class must pass a pre-employment background check, physical examination and drug screen. Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only) Assists in planning, scheduling, directing and participates in the equipment repair section of the Parks and Recreation Division. Oversees the repairs of equipment used for work performed by park and recreation department staff. Performs hands-on work in the skilled areas of expertise. Maintains records and prepares reports as needed. Requests parts, supplies, and materials to replenish the inventory of the repair shop as needed. Follows and participates in an established preventative maintenance program for tools and equipment. Trains work crews on proper and safe tool and equipment operation. May perform repair and maintenance work at various service centers and on site breakdowns as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.
