Position: After School Teacher Location: Newtown High School, 48-01 90th Street, Room 363, Elmhurst, NY 11373 Type: Part-Time (September 2024 - June 2025) About Us: Queens Community House (QCH) is a dynamic, multi-site nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the diverse population of Queens. Role Overview: We are collaborating with the NYC Department of Education and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development to provide School Day and After School services at Newtown High School. As an After School Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching credit-bearing classes to 9th and 10th-grade students, ensuring their academic progress and grade promotion goals are met. Primary Responsibilities: Instruction: Teach a credit-bearing after-school class for 9th and 10th grade students, adhering to Department of Education regulations. Lesson Planning: Create and deliver engaging lessons. Submit lesson plans to the Program Director. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate attendance records for your classes. Student Engagement: Identify and encourage students who are not regularly attending classes to participate. Communication: Meet with the Program Director regularly to discuss any areas of concern or difficulties in working with students. Qualifications: Certification: Must be a Department of Education certified teacher. Experience: Experience working with high school students preferred. Skills: Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills. Ability to engage students and address their academic needs effectively. Additional Details: Start Date: Position available immediately. Schedule: Part-time throughout the school year from September 2024 to June 2025. Note that the program does not meet during school closures (Winter Break, Spring Break, etc.), and staff are not expected to work during these breaks. Professional Development: Staff have access to professional development opportunities, including training and learning sessions. Clearances: Prospective employees are required to obtain the necessary clearances from the NYC DOE and QCH before starting work with youth.
