Date: August 27, 2024 Title: Global Education Assistant Description: The Global Education Assistant is a part-time position within the Center for Global Education. This position provides administrative and logistical support to the office with close direction from the Director of Global Education; will assist in the coordination of the office transportation needs, student housing, and orientations; plan program events/trips; assist students as needed; support departmental staff members; support grant tracking and sponsored research; and will problem solve as required. Evening and weekend hours may be required, in addition to driving students to/from places. Under the supervision of the Director of Global Education, the Global Education Assistant will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and support Hartwick College international students to ensure compliance with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Student and Exchange Visitor Program. (SEVIS). Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Director of Global Education, supports coordination of international student recruitment and outreach strategies, including communication with prospective, current and former students, Hartwick employees, agents, and U.S. and non-U.S. higher education institutions and high schools, and other organizations likely to be viable sources of international students. Cultivates and maintains positive working relationships and serves as point of contact for agents, advisors and counselors; assists with promoting Hartwick; communicates directly and regularly with current, past, and prospective agents, advisors, and counselors to ascertain how they can best recruit students for Hartwick College. Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) approved by DHS to issue immigration documents and grant immigration benefits to students in F-1 visa status. As needed, will advise and assist international students regarding all admissions requirements and non-immigrant compliance issues, such as visa adjustments, employment, travel, and re-entry into the country. Participates in the New Student Orientations and other activities related to international students; works collaboratively to plan programs that enhance international education at Hartwick College. Handles department website updates and incoming inquiries Collaborates with the Admissions office on issues related to admissions processes for international students and timely transition from Admissions to Global Education for issuance of I-20 forms. Assists with developing the procedures and protocols for maintaining complete and accurate student data required for SEVIS and monitoring through updating students' SEVIS records to ensure smooth entry or transition into Hartwick College. Works cooperatively with faculty and staff to maximize the short and long-term success of the programs, especially Hartwick's J Term study abroad programs. Creates promotional materials Participate in significant college wide events such as Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend As a representative of the College, expected to always comport themselves in a professional manner, both on and off campus Comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local, and associational laws, rules and regulations Additional duties as required Qualifications: Minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Experience working with international students is preferred. Clean driving record and a valid drivers' license. Valid US passport required for DHS registration. Demonstrated knowledge of Google Suite and/or Windows-based computer software (Word, Excel, Office, etc.) Ability to maintain organized records Excellent interpersonal skills High level of attention to detail Excellent verbal and written communication skills Positive disposition when working with students, faculty and staff Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external stakeholders Knowledge of and willingness to work in the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) The College strongly recommends that all employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (full course of primary vaccination plus at least one dose of a booster).
