About our opportunity: The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Parking Attendant in the Transportation Department. This is a benefitted position at 30 hours per week. The Transportation Department manages the city's public parking facilities, ensuring safe, accessible, and efficient parking options for residents and visitors alike. The Parking Attendant role involves providing excellent customer service and maintaining the operational integrity of the parking facilities. What you'll be doing: Coordinate the entrance and exit of vehicles at assigned parking facilities. Accept payments for public parking and parking citations, make change, and provide receipts as requested. Provide directions and information to customers, and respond to complaints and problems. Perform booth opening and closing duties, including cash drawer verification, daily cash reports, and booth cleaning. Inspect assigned parking facilities, reporting any maintenance needs, improper parking, or suspicious activities. Troubleshoot and assist with minor equipment repairs, such as gates, pay stations, and ticket spitters. Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public to coordinate work activities and resolve issues. Process various forms, reports, and documentation related to parking operations. Operate a personal computer and cash register to manage parking data. Clean and maintain common areas in assigned facilities, including floors, doorways, and parking areas. Empty waste receptacles, sanitize shared spaces, and replenish supplies as needed. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered: High school diploma or GED required. One year of work experience demonstrating the ability to maintain steady employment in any field. Must demonstrate proficiency in performing the essential functions and have the ability to learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
