Ethics Handbook for NYS Employees (Handbook for State Employees_Nov2023_FINAL.pdf) Connect With Us Job Details SUNY New Paltz VacancyExternal Posting (Professional) Applications are invited for consideration for appointment to the following position: Department: Dean - Science & Engineering Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant Local Title: STEM Student Support Specialist Posting Date: July 30, 2024 Classification: SL-3 Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz and The School of Science & Engineering (SS&E) seeks a full-time STEM Student Support Specialist. The successful candidate will be a member of the Office of the Dean of Science and Engineering leadership team. They will work directly with the Dean, Associate Dean, Director of Communications and Budget, the Office Assistant, and the Department Chairs to assist with the onboarding, retention, and successful transition of SS&E students to their post-graduate paths. Duties of the role include but are not limited to: Act as a liaison for the dean's office with other offices that provide student support services for the purpose of: Helping SS&E students to understand the academic processes and the support available to them as they progress through the various stages of their undergraduate education; Designing and implementing SS&E events that provide support and guidance as students choose majors, prepare to be STEM majors, succeed as STEM majors, and prepare for post graduate endeavors. Assist with developing and coordinating a variety of other student-related activities such as: Events designed to build community among SSE students and faculty; Promoting student-related news on social media; Events that highlight research opportunities and other enrichment activities for students Provide assistance in the management of selected student cohorts such as: Students designated as exploring SS&E majors; Students in transition between majors; Students in dual degree programs. Support data management for assessment and reporting including: Accessing information through the Office of Institutional Research and relevant internal information systems; Tabulating data for specific reporting purposes Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree At least 1 year of experience in a role that includes regular interaction with students or prospective students in higher education Excellent organizational and time management skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Familiarity with the use of technology, including social media Experience interacting and collaborating with a wide range of diverse constituencies Strong computer skills are essential; experience using software to collect, organize and interpret data Preferred: Knowledge of the characteristics and best practices that support successful passage through the STEM education pipeline Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds Master's degree Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, a related field, or a STEM field Contact Information: Electronic submissions required.
