Campus Security Officer HV-UPSEU-91724 In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support visa applications. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check and physical. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test. This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Campus Security Officer in order to be considered for permanent appointment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or possession of a High School Equivalency and two years of experience in a related security position or an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Education or closely related field. Possession of a valid New York State Driver License. Completion of the 8-hour and 16-hour security guard courses mandated by New York State to be licensed before assignment. DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: Work is performed under general direction from the Director of Public Safety with considerable leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments in accordance with definitely defined procedures. The Campus Security Officer will report to the Director of Public Safety and perform the following duties: Control and direct traffic on campus roadways and parking lots. Patrol the campus on foot or in patrol vehicle to protect people and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with college rules and regulations. Investigate complaints received personally or as assigned by supervisor. Investigate motor vehicle accidents on campus. Enforce traffic and parking regulations. Supervise Security Guards on routine duties and at special events. Summon local police, fire departments and ambulance services in cases of law violation, fire or other emergencies. Enforce compliance with fire and safety regulations. Respond to Medical emergencies and provide assistance based on level of training. Give information and directions to students and visitors. Keep records and make oral, computer, and written reports. Operate radio, telephone, computer, and other dispatching equipment. Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the Director of Public Safety. There are multiple Full-Time positions available. Hourly rate: $21.26.
