POSITION TITLE: Mechanical Designer II, III, Senior LOCATION: Onsite at LSI Solutions in Victor, NY SALARY RANGES: Mechanical Designer II: $75,000.00 - $99,000.00 Mechanical Designer III: $100,000.00 - $114,000.00 Senior Mechanical Designer: $115,000.00 - $130,000.00 MECHANICAL DESIGNER JOB SUMMARY: The Mechanical Designer is responsible for supporting development, fabrication and evaluation of concepts, products, test fixtures and process equipment through the creation and maintenance of 3D models and prints. Provide device support in relevant labs, test environments, and technology demonstrations as applicable. MECHANICAL DESIGNER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Level II, III Translate between 3D Models (Inventor) and 2D Drawings (AutoCAD). Responsible for using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor to develop 2D or refine 3D models for prototyping and/or release. Responsible for drawing and/or modeling tools and equipment for fixtures and engineering design libraries. Design and detail components and assemblies of low complexity. Participate in design reviews and new product development teams. Create and update patent drawings and technical illustrations. Check drawings and models for accuracy, design intent, and conformance to drawing and modeling standards. Design basic tooling and fixtures to support the manufacture and testing of products or prototypes. Communicate issues, improvements, and project status to peers, engineers, and immediate manager. Provide mentorship on AutoCAD and Inventor drafting and modeling techniques, tips and tricks, and problem-solving. Design and detail of complex components and assemblies. Convey and verify design intent and drawing dimensioning and tolerancing schemes. Communicate issues, improvements, and project status to peers, engineers, managers, and directors. Contribute to the development of applicable dFMEAs. Senior All essential functions listed above. Lead the theoretical and physical design and implementation of all levels of components, assemblies, test fixtures, methods, and machines. Establish, train, and enforce departmental standards for designs and drawings. Provide advanced engineering and design support to product engineers as needed. Provide expertise in GD&T, tolerance stack up, and Gauge Development. Design and detail components and assemblies of high complexity. Communicate issues, improvements, and project status to peers, engineers, and any level of leadership. Develop applicable dFMEAs. MECHANICAL DESIGNER ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: All other duties as assigned. Participate in design and development laboratories. MECHANICAL DESIGNER EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 2D CAD and solid modeling proficiency required. AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor preferred. SolidWorks is a plus. Formal CAD training is a plus. Associates degree applied science or technical arts is required; mechanical design or design related specialties is preferred. Medical device experience or experience in a regulated industry preferred. Experience with product data management (PDM) is desired. Autodesk Vault is a plus. Level II 3-5 years' mechanical design experience is required. Level III 5-7 years' mechanical design experience is required. Senior 7-10 years' mechanical design experience is required. MECHANICAL DESIGNER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Level II Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to use and follow document control procedures to include product data management (PDM). Able to complete basic to intermediate level tasks in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D. Basic Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack ups, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA), Design for Reliability. Basic understanding of materials, machining and fabrication principles, and physics and mechanisms. Able to complete intermediate to advanced level tasks in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D. Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack ups, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA, Design for Reliability. Basic knowledge of design failure mode and effects analysis (dFMEA). Basic understanding of materials treatments, conditioning, and finishes as well as post processing technologies. Level III The above listed Knowledge, Skills & Abilities. Excellent technical writing and communication skills. Able to complete advanced level tasks in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D. Proven application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack ups, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA), Design for Reliability. Advanced knowledge of design failure mode and effects analysis (dFMEA). Advanced understanding of materials, machining and fabrication principles, and physics and mechanisms. Advanced understanding of materials treatments, conditioning, and finishes as well as post processing technologies. Senior The above listed Knowledge, Skills & Abilities. Able to complete any level of task in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D. Able to teach and mentor use of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack ups, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA), Design for Reliability. Expert knowledge of design failure mode and effects analysis (dFMEA). Expert understanding of materials, machining and fabrication principles, and physics and mechanisms.
