Job Description Position Title: Dietary Technician FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Director of Nutrition and Wellness SUPERVISES: N/A DEPARTMENT: OMHC COMPANY: MHS/The Overlook - Charlton Campus POSITION SUMMARY : As an integral part of the Culinary Services Team, the Dietary Technician works under the direct supervision of the Registered Dietitian in support of the efforts of the Culinary Services Team and The Overlook Community. The Dietary Technician's work ensures not only that our Residents and Patients receive the appropriate nutrition required per the guidelines established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in support of medically directed diets; yet also that the standards of quality are upheld so that the meals we provide are fresh, colorful and engaging. POSITION DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrate strong customer service skills with Residents, Patients, Family and Team members. Communicate effectively and consistently with Executive Chef, Culinary Manager, Director of Nutrition and Wellness, and other Leadership in an open and supportive way. Work to Exceed Resident, Patient and Guest expectations 100% of the time. Understand Therapeutic and Consistency diets as prescribed by the medical providers. High attention to detail to ensure menus/diet orders are appropriately completed and accurately entered in computer system, and ensuring accuracy, thus safety. Able to manage multiple tasks daily. Ability to motivate and engage, educate, and train staff. Ability to screen and assess residents as needed by the request of the Registered Dietitian Current Knowledge of CMS guidelines as they pertain to food, preparation, diet, and nutrition. Screen all new admissions and assist with menu selections Enter adjustments in the menu system. Interview residents and families for food preferences. Maintain organized log system to any issues/ concerns that staff and/ or patients may have with food service and addressing issues/ concerns with Kitchen management team. Work with Quality team on quality improvement efforts that are recommended or required. Attend care plan meetings as designated by Registered Dietitian Ensure all staff and operations follow established guidelines in the areas of personal hygiene, safety, uniforms, sanitation, equipment upkeep, and customer service and food presentation as required by the Department of Public Health. Provide menus, modified menus, and provide copies to patients as requested. Promote effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships, always maintain professional conduct. Identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively. Demonstrate a positive, supportive attitude towards all. Display patience and tact when dealing with all healthcare personnel. Present the department in a positive manner when dealing with visitors, residents and staff. Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Performs additional related duties as required or as directed. Review department supply needs and place orders as needed with outside vendor. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree from an approved American Dietetic Association Dietetic Technician program and be registered within 6 months of employment or relevant years of experience - required Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics preferred or associate degree in related field, CDM or demonstrated equivalent knowledge as typically obtained with 5 years' experience within the field - preferred Experience as a Diet Technician in a long-term care setting - preferred 1-3 years in a long-term care setting - required Excellent organizational skills and communication skills - required Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual. Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and be able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor. Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change.
