Posting Details Position Information Working Title Head Coach - Women's Softball Position Number 717246 Appointment Type Tenure Track No FTE 1 = 40 hours/week, 12 months If time limited, duration date Position Overview Primary Function of Organizational Unit The NCCU Department of Athletics' primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives. Primary Purpose of Position Under minimal supervision, directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for an intercollegiate women's softball program operating under NCAA Division I operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of program activities. Must comply with University, MEAC and NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Must work cooperatively and responsibly with other departmental personnel. Responsible for operating within the budgetary limitation of the program. Must support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete. Must support, encourage, and monitor student-athlete's academic progress. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to read, understands, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program. Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty. Knowledge of NCAA I regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques. Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor's degree required. Present evidence of strong organizational and communication skills and current knowledge of NCAA regulations. Proven successful coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level. NCAA Division I program experience preferred. Proven evidence of commitment to academic excellence including student-athlete graduation. Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with student-athlete s, colleagues, and the public. Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation Must possess a valid driver's license and pass the NCAA recruiting test within 90 days. Recruiting: The Head Coach is responsible for the development of a comprehensive plan to identify, evaluate and recruit high quality student-athletes. This includes, but is not limited to, phone contacts, in-person evaluations, home visits and student-athlete visits to campus. The Head Coach is responsible, as per NCAA rules, to maintain accurate records of all recruitment activities for himself/herself and for his/her assistant coaches. Function Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Team Preparation: The Head Coach is responsible for training, teaching and conditioning student- athletes in preparation for all intercollegiate contests. The Head Coach will plan and supervise practices, prepare game strategies and coach the team at contests. The Head Coach will work closely with the Strength and Conditioning and Athletic Training staffs to develop a yearlong program of conditioning and injury prevention. Student-Athlete Development: The Head Coach is responsible for creating an atmosphere and culture that is a reflection of the missions of both the Athletic Department and the College. A positive student-athlete experience, both on and off the field is a number one priority of the coaching staff and administration. Administrative Responsibilities: The Head Coach will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative tasks including, but not limited to, scheduling of practices and games, annual reports, recruiting logs, providing rosters and other paperwork to various offices for NCAA compliance issues, team travel plans, media guide development, etc. and all any/all administrative requirements for any other duties as assigned.
