The Literature and Creative Writing Department of Hamilton College invites applications for a practicing creative nonfiction writer with expertise in a second genre to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting July 1, 2025. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. Your cover letter should address ways in which you raise issues of diversity and inclusion in your teaching, scholarship, and/or service and the ways in which this enhances the educational experiences of students. Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a PhD in English and candidates with an M.F.A. with significant graduate training in literature are preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter, including introduction to creative writing (mixed genre), intermediate workshops, and literature courses. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $89,800 to $96,000. The Literature and Creative Writing Department offers innovative concentrations and minors in creative writing and literatures composed in or translated into English, across temporal and geographical categories. The department, one of the College's largest, consists of 15 tenured and pre-tenure faculty, who teach and do scholarly and creative work in a wide variety of genres, fields and forms. We take a broad, intermedial view of literary and cultural inquiry; many of us pursue comparative and interdisciplinary work that engages book history, critical media studies, philosophy and intellectual history, sound studies, translation studies, or visual culture studies, from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Because we are a department that both studies and creates literature, we require students within both majors to do work in creative practice as well as literary and cultural analysis.
