The shelter driver will assist families with a variety of transportation needs and coordinate transportation with the shelter team. The shelter driver will also support the overall operations of the shelter when driving responsibilities are not needed. Key Responsibilities: The Shelter Driver will Transport families to and from designated locations using the shelter's passenger transport van The Shelter Driver prepare and map driving routes using the most expedited route prior to planned transport Adhere to Shelter's policies and Procedures The Shelter Driver adhere to agency transportation policies and procedures Coordinate and communicate with shelter leadership and Staff on a regular basis concerning transportation issues Maintain and use shelter mobile telephone during transport to coordinate logistics of trips The Shelter Driver report transport van issues promptly, whether they be client or maintenance related. Notify families of any delays in pick-up or drop-off time The Shelter Driver assist families in and out of transport van as necessary Ensure families adhere to safety rules including use of car seats and seat belts Document every trip: include to and from information and mileage. Comply with state and national road regulations and standards Ensure that the transport van remains clean and well maintained Ensure the transport van has an appropriate level of gasoline for trips, refill as necessary Complete documentation such as logs, mileage, and participant reports Other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager and Director of Shelter Operations Qualifications: High school diploma, GED or equivalent Valid Driver's License Clean Driving Record Experience as a driver preferred Position will provide training in CPR and First Aid and other direct support training opportunities Ability to demonstrate compassion and the ability to understand of the needs of homeless families Strong communication skills and the ability to set limits in a fair and supportive way Ability to think creatively and respond to crises quickly and calmly Ability to maintain a polite and professional demeanor at all times Must be willing to work with a diverse population At Making Opportunity Count, we deeply value our culture and are dedicated to fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered.
