Job Description: DIVISION: Academic UNIT : DiMenna-Nyselius Library BASIC FUNCTION: Supports the research lifecycle by being a resource for sharing, promoting, and preserving the digital scholarship produced by faculty, students, staff and Academic Centers and Institutes. Manages and develops policy for , our institutional repository, as well as Pure4EGS, our faculty and researcher profile system. Supervises the Library Specialist for the Institutional Repository. Tracks output of Fairfield University faculty, staff, and students; measures the impact of their scholarship through research metrics, including citation analysis, bibliometrics, altmetrics, and resources such as Scopus. Collaborates with Faculty Partnership Program librarians to teach workshops and promote scholarly communication and repository solutions. Promotes open access initiatives on campus. Advises campus and Library on copyright, fair use, research impact, and author rights issues. UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Availability for evening and weekend work, as needed, is required. EDUCATION: Graduate degree in Library & Information Science (MLS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program, second Master's in subject-specific field, or equivalent experience, is preferred. ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of best practices, current trends and issues in scholarly communication. Experience working with a digital repository. Excellent communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate well about scholarly communication priorities and issues to a variety of audiences. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Strong commitment to service. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Second Master's in subject-specific field. Experience working with the Digital Commons and Pure4EGS platforms. One year or more experience working in an academic library. Demonstrated knowledge of research impact measures. Demonstrated knowledge of copyright and intellectual property rights. Knowledge of researcher identification numbers (e.g. ORCID) and author rights. Previous management/supervisory experience. EXEMPT: Yes SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: Library Specialist for the Institutional Repository REPORTS TO: Associate Dean for Technical Services and the Budget ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides leadership, strategic direction, and support for scholarly communication issues and the research lifecycle on campus. This includes: providing direction, strategies, and support for the Library's digital content strategy, including the creation, sharing, measuring of impact, and preserving of scholarship and creative works, supporting initiatives that promote barrier-free and open access to research, understanding and supporting the variety of ways to demonstrate research impact of scholarship. Examples include altmetrics, impact factors, Scopus metrics, and readership reports generated via the institutional repository, collaborating with the Library's Faculty Partnership program to develop opportunities to engage with scholars at the discipline level, liaising with different campus offices, including the Associate Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship, and Academic Centers and Institutes to track scholarship produced by Fairfield University faculty, staff, and students, understanding and supporting research needs, elevation of campus profile, and promotion and tenure process, advising campus and Library on copyright, fair use, research impact, and author rights issues, working with faculty to create and update online profiles including Pure4EGS, Google Scholar, ORCiD, and other emerging tools. Provides strategic direction and support for Fairfield University's institutional repository, Pure4EGS . This includes: managing day-to-day operations of Pure4EGS, from procuring digital content, describing it, and making it accessible to a global audience, establishing, documenting and communicating policies and procedures that govern digital content acquisition, submission, and description for Pure4EGS, generating reports for departments, academic centers, and the library around , developing programs and resources to promote campus involvement in Pure4EGS. Supervises and supports staff. This includes: recruiting, hiring, and training, coaching and mentoring, as appropriate, meeting with all staff members individually and as a department/unit on a regular basis, overseeing the flow and quality of work, coordinating staffing schedules, communicating effectively with staff concerning department/unit and library-wide matters, evaluating performance. Participates in the growth, development and professional work of the Library. This includes: embodying the mission and values of the Library and the University in our everyday work life, communicating effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent Library and/or University matters, assisting in the discussion and formulation of policies and procedures, keeping current with developments in job responsibilities, acting as a responsible participant in staff, committee, and/or task force meetings, attending and participating in Library and University events, monitoring developments in librarianship through attendance at meetings and workshops, membership in professional associations, and the reading of professional literature, promoting and communicating the value of the Library to the community.
