Prevention Specialist $44,655 - $50,228/ Year Full Benefits Package Duties: Assists in the implementation and delivery of promotion and prevention services and initiatives in Berrien County. Disseminates information on health promotion and prevention focus areas, including substance use disorder prevention, mental health, childhood trauma, and chronic disease prevention. Conducts prevention education services and supports health promotion activities and initiatives in schools throughout Berrien County. Assists schools in making choices regarding health promotion and prevention curricula. May assist with the development of such curricula. Prepares and conducts trainings and presentations to increase awareness and develop skills in health promotion, education, and prevention. Maintains prevention program records in an accurate, complete, and appropriate manner and completes reporting and evaluation into systems/databases. Participates in administering programs and agreements with State and other funding agencies. Maintains collaborative relationships with community partners including leaders, law enforcement, educators, regional associations, and other service providers. Leads and maintains active coalitions of diverse membership focused on substance use disorder prevention and other community health promotion and prevention issues. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, public health or a related human services field; OR Associate degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, sociology; or a related human services field and a minimum of two years of experience in health promotion and prevention education services. Special Requirements: A MCBAP Registered Development Plan must be established, if not already in place, within first 60 days of employment. Must obtain Certified Prevention Specialist Reciprocal (CPS-R) before the expiration date of the Registered Development Plan or within two years of start of employment. CPS-R must be kept current throughout the course of employment. Employees with CPS-R receive a one-grade pay increase. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license and a vehicle. In times of a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties inside or outside of Berrien County. Required Knowledge and Skills: Clear understanding of the physical, social, and psychological impact of substance use disorders and trauma on the individual, family, and community. Reasonable knowledge of the principles and objectives of a substance use disorder prevention/education program. Familiar with laws, rules, and regulations applicable to prevention and treatment of substance abuse. Able to comply with state and federal confidentiality regulations applicable to prevention and treatment services. Skill in public speaking, writing, and presentation of prevention/education materials to a variety of grade levels/age groups. Proficient in the use of computers and excellent interpersonal skills. Able to organize several project tasks simultaneously and work independently.
