LOCATION: Northeastern Regional Information Center - VIRTUAL Cooperative Virtual Learning Academy (Physical location of employee is at the discretion of the administrator in consultation with BOCES). BASIC FUNCTION: Supervise and administer some aspects of the Cooperative Virtual Learning Academy (CVLA) in the NERIC division at the Capital Region BOCES. To operate within moral and ethical concepts of the education profession. The work is performed under the general supervision of the designated Executive Principal. RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve in support of the Executive Principal of the CVLA. Comply with and administer the appropriate laws, regulations, policies and procedures affecting the program. Administer programs and COSERs related to the CVLA. This position will require interaction at all levels of the BOCES organization and throughout the regional schools. The Assistant Principal will work closely with administration in planning and decision-making regarding the future direction of the program. Responsible for recommending and monitoring resources associated with program efforts of the NERIC Division's CVLA. Supervise and evaluate SED certified staff teachers and teaching assistants, and service level staff as directed by the Executive Principal. Serve as an active member of the CVLA administration team, assigned committees and professional organizations. Responsible for collaborating on the design of programs and learning activities to be recommended to the executive principal and NERIC Executive Team. Accountable to the Executive Principal of the CVLA and the Assistant Superintendent-NERIC. Support curriculum and instruction under the direction of Executive Principal. Work with the Executive Principal to plan and provide professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff. Ensure students have access to appropriate NYS assessments, including grades 3-8 ELA and Math and Regents examinations. Work with program coordinators, school counselors, teachers, and other personnel to help create student schedules, implement and uphold student code of conduct and expectations, and track and monitor student attendance and grades. Make recommendations for professional development and/or program improvements based on collected data. Performs other tasks as required. Job Qualifications Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university, or one accredited by New York State to grant degrees, with a Master's Degree in educational leadership, or a related field. New York State certification in School Building Leader or School Administrator/Supervisor required. Programmatic experience in virtual school settings. Knowledge of state and local regulations. Experience with use of technology in the classrooms. Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, family members, school district administrators, and other external professional staff. Demonstration of strong writing skills. Strong belief and commitment to developing a comprehensive virtual learning environment that balances community and curriculum. Must demonstrate ability to work with and/or on a team of other educators and administrators The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
