Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Art, Art History, or a related field. Proven experience in art handling and installation in professional or academic settings. Strong research and editorial skills, with an excellent command of English. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. Technical proficiency with art production and research tools and equipment. Flexibility to travel and work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings as needed.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. Familiarity with contemporary art practices and critical theory. Skills in digital media, graphic design, or video editing. Knowledge of a second language.Brief Description of Duties:Future Histories Studio is seeking a highly versatile and dynamic individual to join our team as a Studio Assistant. This unique role blends the responsibilities of an artist assistant, lab manager, editor, researcher, and art installer, offering an exciting opportunity to engage deeply with both the creative and logistical aspects of art production and research. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment that bridges academic settings and the vibrant cultural landscape of New York City. The successful incumbent must possess excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Lab Management: Management of Future Histories Studio - Oversee the daily operations of the art and research lab, maintain equipment, and ensure the lab is stocked with necessary supplies. Organize lab schedules and facilitate student use of tech equipment. Coordinate visiting artists, guest lecturers, and workshops. Work with graduate assistants to create and distribute marketing and promotional materials. Artist Assistance: Provide direct support to FHS Founder in their daily activities, including but not limited to studio preparation, material sourcing, and administrative tasks. Collaborate with the artist to maintain an organized and efficient studio environment, ensuring that supplies are stocked, and equipment is well-maintained. Aid in the preparation and installation of artworks for exhibitions, including cataloging, handling, packaging, and transportation as required. - Assist with the management of digital assets, including cataloging and organizing images of artworks for archival and promotional purposes. Undertake general administrative duties such as scheduling, correspondence, coordination with galleries, museums and other institutions, and record-keeping to support the smooth operation of the artist's practice.Research: Conduct research relevant to ongoing projects, including literature reviews, data collection, and analysis. Stay abreast of trends and advancements at the intersection of art, technology, and social justice. Gather reference materials as needed for upcoming projects, helping to inform the artistic process. Support FHS constituents in project development, including conceptual brainstorming, material sourcing, and technical troubleshootingEditing and Publishing: Assist in editing and publishing research papers, articles, grant proposals, and exhibition catalogs. Ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to academic and artistic standards.Art Installation: Coordinate and physically assist in the installation and deinstallation of artworks at various venues. Manage logistics, including transportation, layout planning, and on-site adjustments. Provide support during events, workshops, and other artistic engagements, including interacting with visitors and assisting with logistics.Other duties as assigned.
