Manager, Teen Voice Department: Branch Services & Programs Employment Type: Full Time Location: Stephen A. Schwarzman Building Reporting To: Rachel Roseberry Compensation: $80,000 - $85,000 / year Description Overview Reporting to the Associate Director of Young Adult Programs and Services (YAPS), the Manager of Teen Voice is responsible for the oversight and management of NYPL's work supporting teen voice and publication across the institution. The Manager will oversee all aspects of the teen voice initiative focused on the development and implementation of opportunities for teens to create, share, and showcase their unique perspectives and voices through a variety of platforms including events, exhibitions, digital and print media, podcasts, video, and social media. This includes production of our flagship print publication by and for teens, Teen Voices, implementation of the annual Teen Voices Festival, and management of all creative contests for teens. The Manager will also support the development and implementation of the social media strategy for NYPL Teens. NYPL's teen voice initiative is a signature component of our Teens 360º initiative offering a holistic support package for teens, including resources for achieving their goals; welcoming, well-equipped spaces for building skills and developing creative projects; a wide array of materials for learning and exploring extracurricular interests; and mental health support. The Manager joins a leadership team that includes the Director, two Associate Directors, and four other Managers to support departmental team-building and collaboration, communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, and establish partnerships with mission-aligned external organizations. We are looking for someone we can count on to: Own : Production of Teen Voices, NYPL's flagship print publication for teens Production of large scale events including NYPL's Teen Voices Festival Implementation of all creative contests for teens Teach : Best practices in curation and showcasing of teen-created content Professional development and resources for Young Adult staff in showcasing teen-created work at their branch Learn: The goals of the Young Adult Services department, including our approach to partnering with staff in library branches, and our philosophy for working with young adults inclusive of NYPL's strategic vision and our Teens360° initiative. How to maintain effective partnerships with internal partners and external organizations that are aligned with NYPL's mission and can further our work in teen voice and publication The social media strategy for NYPL Teens accounts Improve : Inter-departmental collaboration with other Young Adult Programs & Services teams and initiatives The number of opportunities teens have to create and showcase original content at the Library. Systems for program management at scale Some expectations for this role are that within: 1 month , this person will: Review and understand the program goals, scope, and existing management of the teen voice initiative and social media strategy 3 months , this person will: Successfully establish and maintain relationships with internal partners including Communications & Marketing, Young Adult staff and Library Managers, Legal & Privacy, and more Successfully establish and maintain relationships with existing external partners 6 months and beyond , this person will: Advise the Associate Director, Young Adult Programs & Services on strategic growth and development of the teen voice initiative and social media strategy Responsibilities The Manager of Teen Voice Programs will Manage the production of Teen Voices , NYPL's flagship publication by and for teens as well as a regularly updated web presence of teen work including the Teen Voices webpage, NYPL blogs, and social media Manage the implementation of all creative contests for teens, inclusive of the annual Teen Voices Magazine Contest as a part of Summer at the Library programming Manage the organization and planning of large-scale events, including NYPL's Teen Voices Festival Support the development and implementation of the social media strategy for the NYPL Teens accounts promoting spaces, services, collections, and programming for young adults across the system Advise the Associate Director, Young Adult Programs and Services on the strategic growth of the teen voice initiative and social media strategy Oversee operational functions for the initiative including budget management, impact measurement, and field leadership Lead the development and implementation of professional development workshops and resources for library staff on how to support teen creativity and showcase teen-created work at branches Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate regularly with internal partners including Young Adult Programs & Services, Communications & Marketing, Library Sites and Services, and Legal & Privacy as well as external partners and vendors Related duties as required Required Education, Experience & Skills Required Education & Certifications ALA accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science, Master's degree in Education, or a related field. Required Experience Minimum of five years' experience working in youth development, education, or libraries Experience creating and delivering interactive trainings, ideally both in-person and virtually Experience coordinating work with many different constituencies, including internal stakeholders, external partners, and diverse patron/program participant populations Required Skills Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively across many different Library departments Ability to coordinate work with many different external constituencies Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and wear many different hats Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the Library Excellent organizational skills.
