JOB SUMMARY Ensure appropriate and meaningful group and individual activities are available to Elders in each home by observing activities regularly (daily, in so far as possible). Plans a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, music and dance, games, exercise programs, outings, and social events. Regularly reviews activities charting for accuracy, completion, and to serve as a source of information for the program. Plans, organizes, promotes, and evaluates the program and activities. Creates individual activity opportunities for all newly admitted Elders. Encourages Elder participation in activities and provide individual support and motivation as needed. Fosters a sense of community and belonging among Elders through group activities and events. Develops personal relationships with Elders to better understand their interests and needs. Stays updated on best practices and new ideas for senior activities and integrate them into the programming. Respects patient/visitor privacy and maintains confidentiality at all times; holds sensitive conversations in a private place and never discusses patient, hospital or clinic business in public areas. Uses professional judgment in providing information based on the situation and is sensitive to individual and organizational concerns. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education / Experience / License and Certifications High School Diploma or GED equivalency, required. Certified Nurse Assistant license, preferred. Previous experience in activity planning or a related role, preferably in long-term care or health care setting, preferred. Experience working with elderly individuals or in a geriatric setting, strongly preferred. Additional Skills Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Creativity and enthusiasm for developing engaging activities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in using computer software for scheduling and record-keeping. Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products. Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required.
