Position Title:Café Food Service Coordinator II Job Group:Merit Required Minimum Qualifications: One year experience as Food Service Coordinator I or comparable experience in food distribution. Preferred Qualifications:Experience in food service and retail management, college dining, catering, or food production. Experience scheduling, assigning work, personal management, and training. Experience as a Barista or in a coffee shop setting. Experience managing and working with students. Experience with POS systems and varied food service software such as NetMenu, CBoard, or similar. Experience with Microsoft programs, specifically Outlook, Excel, or comparable. ServSafe® Certified. Join the Business Café team at Iowa State University as a Food Service Coordinator II , where you'll take on a leadership role under the Manager of Campus Cafés. In this 9-month position, you'll ensure high-quality food, coffee, and specialty beverages are prepared and served with care, all while building strong relationships with regulars and guiding student employees. You'll manage daily operations, including food ordering, forecasting, and customer service while maintaining quality standards. This role offers a steady Monday through Friday schedule from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM and includes perks such as a meal allowance, provided shirts and hats, shoe reimbursement, and opportunities for professional development and potential for career progression. The Business Cafe, located in the Gerdin Business Building, is a bustling spot offering espresso, coffee drinks, desserts, and a menu of fresh sandwiches, salads, wraps, and soups. You'll oversee the POS system, maintain records, and ensure everything meets our high standards. Along with supervising and training student employees, you'll create an inviting atmosphere that attracts a wide range of customers, including students, professors, and staff. If you're ready to lead a team in a dynamic environment and make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply and look forward to meeting you Location: Business Café - Gerdin Business Building Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Appointment: 9 Months Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Supervises Food Worker personnel in performance of food service tasks in cafeterias, dining rooms, banquet rooms, vending areas. Opens food service center; secures kitchen and dining areas at the close of daily serving period as shift may dictate. Assumes duties of unit supervisor during off-duty or absence periods; coordinates overall food center operations. Participates in evaluating performance of personnel and makes recommendations to unit supervisor. Arranges and assists in arranging for parties, conference luncheons, catering services, etc., and assist in preparation of dining areas and serving of food. Arranges for added regular and student help for special activities requiring food service and for student served meals. Supervises and participates in the work of kitchen and dining areas as required. Assists in service and dining areas as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of methods and practices of institutional food preparation and service. Knowledge of principles of food sanitation, health hazards, and the necessary precautionary measures. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting (50 pounds), bending, stooping, standing for prolonged periods. Ability to train, schedule and monitor work of student employees. Knowledge of effective communication skills in order to handle customer concerns, requests or complaints. Knowledge of basic arithmetic skills, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication.
