NIFA started out as an Aero Club for ex-army and navy pilots in 1919. Today, it exists as a forum at the national level for and from aviators and aviation enthusiasts, looking to further their studies and careers in the field through competitive and non-competitive events, networking and national recognition. Under NIFA, colleges and universities across the country fall into ten regions. Each of these regions represents an arena to promote NIFA's goals of safety, education, communication and cooperation among industry leaders. For more information on this nonprofit, charitable organization, please visit the official NIFA website: Job Description: Continuing with the safe promotion of our competitive tradition, Farmingdale State College is seeking a part-time flight instructor to act as a NIFA coach and mentor, and be responsible for providing ground, flight and simulator training specifically tailored to the NIFA student candidate. Additionally, the instructor must also be well-organized and be able to plan and coordinate FSC approved fundraisers, training, tryout and travel events (for up to 12 students, twice a year) during official competitions. This may involve traveling with competitors from five up to ten days at a time in order to compete at the Regional level during the fall, at the National level during the spring, and locally for in-house flight tryouts during the summer. The position may also require the candidate to attend various meetings and interact with campus administration, student government, and the flight department throughout the year. These meetings are necessary to obtain a yearly budget, for travel and spending authorizations, to discuss team promotion and progress, and to coordinate the safe and efficient use of state resources (aircraft) and their availability during training, tryout and competition weeks. The instructor will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and documentation as appropriate.
