The Career Counselor offers career coaching to students, hosts and supports programming, leads a Career Community, conducts proactive outreach to students, and offers career support through classroom visits. In addition, the Career Counselor provides administrative, technology, and data support to the team with specific focus on the career in curriculum program. Collaborate with the Career & Professional Development team in designing and executing undergraduate career programming, including Career Fairs and Networking events, resume building, LinkedIn, interview skills, job/internship search strategies, professional etiquette and other programs and services consistent with advancing undergraduate student career readiness and career management skills Once trained, coach primarily undergraduate (and graduate and alumni, as requested) students in one-on-one sessions; present to student groups on career readiness skills Teach career readiness skills via classroom visits and other methods Support EPIC career in curriculum program: directly support Deputy Director through data management, reporting, and technology; troubleshoot technology for students and faculty; visit classes to demonstrate platform, score student work as needed Lead or Co-Lead a Career Community: (1) Proactively build relationships with students in your community; (2) Write and send newsletters/blogs/other communication relevant to these career areas, to students; (3) Proactively share internship and job opportunities (4) Collaborate with Employer Relations to include relevant employer content; (5) Develop expertise and build relationships with faculty and staff to ensure community-specific opportunities and relevant resources are available to students Enter data and run reports as needed from various systems including Handshake, Excel, Banner, etc. Provide some administrative support for the department as needed Document constituent interactions in a data rich environment Qualifications Strong interest in Career Development and a desire to work and advance in this field Positive, can do, upbeat attitude and excellent customer service focus Demonstrated, strong interpersonal, written and oral communication, problem solving, organizational and presentation skills Highly organized and motivated self-starter, able to work independently Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom. Experience with higher education career technologies such as Banner, Handshake, uConnect, Big Interview, or Focus 2 a strong plus Highly tech savvy with strong ability to pick up new technology systems. Defined Contribution Plan Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
