Location: Binghamton, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Thu Apr 25 2024 Job Description: Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3) Salary: $55,000 - $58,000 As a unit within the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) is the largest office within the division and works in collaboration with more than 90 culturally diverse student organizations on campus. The MRC further advances the diversity mission of the University by working closely with various offices and departments to provide quality programming and other resources that support the recruitment, retention, personal and professional development of all ethnically and socially diverse student groups. The ideal candidate will join the MRC staff which includes an assistant director, a coordinator, and office manager. Position start date is June 1, 2024. All staff within the MRC report to the Director of Intercultural Affairs. Responsibilities include: Develop a comprehensive programming calendar in advance of each semester that includes signature programs and events that are connected to heritage months, celebratory days, and current events/relevant topics. Manage the implementation of all tasks associated with the execution of the MRC signature programming. Maintain the budget for all programs; the AD is responsible for ensuring the appropriate level of support from MRC student staff. Coordinate and manage the monthly MRC micro-grants, both the application, applicants and ensuring student programming is completed in accordance with grant applications. Along with the Division's Associate Director, Operations, coordinate orientation, training and on-boarding for MRC student staff. Compile quarterly reports for the center on programming conducted in the center and in collaboration with campus partners and the greater community. Work with faculty and staff across the campus to provide greater support to students. Provide administrative and programmatic oversight for MRC and MRC initiatives, which may include budget, marketing, communications and outreach efforts. Provide marketing, communication, and outreach support for MRC initiatives. Organize student volunteers for major campus initiatives such as homecoming, campus wide service projects, and community events as needed. Serve as a facilitator for diversity and inclusion workshops designed for student programming. Coordinate and conduct public presentations to promote MRC services, programs, and collaborative activities. Supervise graduate assistant, paraprofessional and volunteer staff. Coordinate and lead the Cultural Recognition Ceremony. Provide support and advise cultural student groups where possible, more specifically but not limited to Latinx, Native American/Alaskan Native, cultural Greek-lettered student organizations and others as deemed appropriate. Work collaboratively with other MRC Staff to coordinate MRC campus-wide programs and manage communications with the campus community and greater community regarding announcements and activities for diverse populations. Plan and coordinate the Men of Color Summit and lead the steering committee. Job Requirements: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, or a relevant field. Demonstrated experience working with a number of diverse groups and constituencies, representing a variety of identities including, but not limited to: African/African American/Black, Arab/Arab American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American/Alaskan Native, Multiracial, International, religiously diverse, LGBTQ, and/or other diverse identities in a higher education environment. Experience conducting campus-wide programs and event development, organization/community building and/or advising. Willingness and ability to observe a variable schedule, including occasional weekend and evening events. Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a time-sensitive environment. Must be detail and service oriented. Programming and leadership experience. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills. Preferred: Professionals with a minimum of two years progressively demonstrated experience in cultural student and/or campus-wide programming in a fast-paced environment. Assessment reporting experience on the effectiveness of initiatives that impact cultural student persistence in higher education. Experience in collaborating with community organizations.
