Electrician - DPW Signals Print ( Apply  Electrician - DPW Signals Salary $24.47 Hourly Location DPW, IN Job Type Full Time Job Number 08288 Department Department of Public Works Operations Opening Date 04/08/2024 Closing Date Continuous Description Benefits Position Summary Provides for installation, inspection, maintenance and operation of electrical and electronic equipment, devices and circuitry. Skills and knowledge are typically acquired through a HS Diploma or equivalent , 2-year Associates degree in Electronics and two (2) years of electrical or electronic work experience. Electronics training or electronics work experience may be substituted for the 2-year Associates degree in Electronics. A valid Class A CDL Driver's License is preferred, Class B license required, the ability to pass a pre-employment driving physical, the ability to lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds or more and the ability to operate equipment to which assigned is required. Must have a working knowledge of the National Electric Code. May be required to work early or late shifts that include weekends, to perform preventative/corrective equipment maintenance and provide assistance/direction to less experienced electricians and/or assigned helpers. Position Responsibilities Electronics/Electrical Duties: Perform installation, inspection, maintenance and operation of electrical and electronic equipment with emphasis on traffic signals and street lighting devices as requested. Equipment Operation: Ability to set-up and operate electrical/non-electrical hand tools, digger truck, jackhammer, air hammer, air compressor, signal pole trailer and other equipment as assigned. Manual Labor Task: May be required to perform manual labor tasks that require the lifting and carrying of objects weighing twenty-five (25) pounds or more. Equipment Inspection: Preform pre-operational inspection of equipment to ensure proper and safe operation of the equipment. Other job related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school education or equivalent. Completion of a four (4) year program in electronics. Five (5) years of previous related work experience in industrial electrical maintenance. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and similar instructive documents. Working knowledge of electricity, electronics, mechanical drawings, and algebra. Knowledge of and/or experience of electrical codes, principles and theories applicable to the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment to include solid state electronic components and electrical/electronic circuits. Ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, schematics and technical manuals. Ability to safely operate all equipment and tools of the trade. Must provide own hand tools sufficient to perform assigned duties. Knowledge of and to work with power sources from low DC millivolts to 13.8 KV volts AC, both single phase and multiphase circuits. Ability to use electrical testing equipment to analyze problems. Ability to perform electrical repair and fabrication work on all equipment related to wastewater treatment. Must have and maintain a valid unrestricted Indiana Driver's License. Working knowledge of FCC regulations. Ability to lift & carry over 50 lbs. Ability to perform all of the following assignments: straight pulling, pulling hand over hand, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending and climbing. Ability for rapid mental-muscular coordination. Depth perception required. Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Must pass a pre-employment physical. These are the minimum requirements for this position. Independent Judgment Actions are controlled by City and departmental policies and proced11res and the National Electrical Code and other applicable codes and regulations. Independent judgement is exercised in determining what repairs are to be made and ensuring the completion of assignments. Work is reviewed on a spot check basis by a supervisor who is generally available.
