Position Summary: Casual Position RIETS/UTSPosition Responsibilities: Madrich: Meet and Orient New StudentsMeet Post Pesach Students after Pesach BreakIntroduce themselves to and make appointments with new studentsMeet students in Israel in May who are coming to YU for the coming fall meet/spend time individually with every studentOffer to learn with the studentsQ and A session for the studentsFollow up with students over the summerSend e-mail regarding issues/loose endsFollow up with phone calls as wellBe involved with Orientation events with Student LifeOrient students in the Fall, with a lot of attention during Elul ZmanFollow up with students on many issues- checking in with them often in Elul and once every 2-3 weeksOne get-together in Elul (involve Mashgichim and Head Madrich)Build relationships with StudentsOversee students during their first semester on campusContinuing contact with the Israeli yeshivot - to get feedback from themMeet regularly with Head Madrich and flag students who may need extra attentionFollow up with students arriving in January (Spring Semester) and April (Post-Pesach) in a similar fashion, through their first semesterConnection to Israel YeshivotKeep in contact with the yeshiva to get feedback during the fallCoordinate speaking slots - and Shabbat visits with faculty and administration of Israeli yeshivotCoordinate with Head Madrich (who will communicate with RIETS and Admissions)ProgrammingOrganize (Israel) yeshiva events for the students during their first semester [but not further into their YU careers]Connection to Yeshiva MashgichimIntroduce students to the mashgichimFrequent updates to the mashgichim on students' progress (weekly in the fall)RecruitmentTrip to Israel during Winter Break to recruit students from their yeshiva and speak to the yeshiva about the progress of their alumniShiur Assistant Take attendanceOrganize shiur eventsDevelop a relationship with studentsPair up study partners and assist in seat assignmentsAt times offer review sessions before midterm and finalViewed as student leaders and are required to remain on campus during orientation and other weekends throughout the yearShoel UmeishivAssist students with understanding and deciphering the textsDevelop relationships with the students and should feel comfortable discussing with them both academic and non-academic mattersOn occasion substitute for the teacher and teach the classNight Seder RebbeArrange night seder chavrusasCoordinate night seder chaburasAssist with questions in the beis medrash in regard to deciphering textsDevelop a relationship with studentsVarious Tasks:Book reshelvingBeit Medrash CleaningTeaching AssistantsFlyer creating and hangingPublication editingTypesettingRIETS PressMiscellaneous Experience & Educational Background:Knowledge of RIETS and UTS programs and studentsMany years of experience with rabbinic textsSkills & Competencies:Good interpersonal and organizational skillsAbility to give a lecture on occasionDetail orientedAbility to read and write HebrewSalary Range:$15-$50/hrAbout Us: Founded in 1886, Yeshiva University (YU) has a strong tradition of combining Jewish scholarship with academic excellence and achievement in the liberal arts, sciences, medicine, law, business, social work, Jewish studies, education, psychology, and more.
