Position Summary: The Assistant Manager / Mashgiach supervises the preparation of all dining areas and maintains an inventory of assigned areas. This position will also share the responsibility of overseeing vending machines throughout the Manhattan campuses. As Mashgiach this position will perform a variety of duties relating to handling, preparing, storing, and serving kosher meals to ensure compliance with Jewish dietary laws. This position will cover the various downtown locations (215, 245, and Brookdale) The schedule for this position is Monday- Wednesday 6:00 am-2:30 pm, Thursday 6:00 am - 3:30 pm; Sunday 9:30 am-7:30 pm.Position Responsibilities:Assistant Manager Assign daily food production numbers, portion size and count, recipe search, and tasting for quality or adjustmentMaintain inventory control, including paper goods items, juices, and other beverages. Ensure that there is enough bread, Danish, and deserts dailyMaintain count of food and any extra production for cateringOversee hot food and sandwich lines during lunch hoursSupervise cashiersObserve price verification on deliveriesCommunicate with customers by taking orders and setting up menu ideas for meetings and seminarsRespond to customer inquiriesDesign the layout of banquet tables and food traysMaintain accounting procedures, cash control, inventory control, and the First In First Out (FIFO) methodOperate small motor vehicles for the purpose of restocking vending machinesMashgiach Perform a variety of duties relating to handling, preparing, storing, and serving Kosher meals to assure compliance with Jewish dietary lawsInstruct personnel in proper procedures for food handlingExperience & Educational Background:Associate's Degree in Food Technology or Business plus 3-5 years of food service experienceSome catering experience preferredMust maintain a valid driver's licenseRead and understand HebrewKnowledge of Kashruth lawsSkills & Competencies:Speaks clearly and expresses self well in one-on-one conversations and groupsDevelops effective written communications and uses them appropriatelyInteracts and proactively shares information with internal and external contacts where appropriateDevelops effective relationships with peers, students, and employeesAssumes responsibility to ensure issues/concerns will be addressed and monitors them through the conclusionIdentifies, defines, and analyzes information and situations before recommending a course of actionEffectively manages own time and resourcesAbility to troubleshoot and problem-solve food service-related issues as neededSalary Range:$24.00 - $25.50 per hourAbout Us: Founded in 1886, Yeshiva University (YU) has a strong tradition of combining Jewish scholarship with academic excellence and achievement in the liberal arts, sciences, medicine, law, business, social work, Jewish studies, education, psychology, and more.
