Required qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year of full time coaching and/or playing experience at the college level in the sport of Baseball. In lieu of college level coaching experience, a combination of two (2) years of full time coaching experience at the high school, college, professional or national team level and playing experience at the college, professional or national team level in the sport of Baseball may be considered.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in administrative responsibilities in the sport of Baseball (e.g. team scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program). Understanding of NCAA Compliance Rules (played a Division I, II or III sport, coached in collegiate athletics or as a staff member in a collegiate athletic program). Previous experience with a Division I Athletic Program.Brief Description of Duties:This position is a coaching assistant for a Division I program in the sport of Baseball and will assist the head coach in the administrative aspects of operating a successful program. They will assist in the identification of prospective student-athletes and support the teaching and on-court skill development of those student-athletes during their athletic and educational tenure at Stony Brook University.Recruiting The coaching assistant will assist administratively in identifying student-athletes capable of competing both academically and athletically at Stony Brook University. The coaching assistant will help in identifying prospective student-athletes through thorough research by initiating correspondence and maintaining relationships with coaches and prospects. The coaching assistant will assist with on campus recruiting, the management of the WBB prospect database, and maintaining records of contacts in order to remain in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University regulations.Student- Athlete Skill Instruction/Team and Game Preparation The coaching assistant will assist with the on-court skill instruction, team practices, and conditioning sessions for year-round development of the student athletes in the sport of Baseball. In addition, the coaching assistant will assist the Head coach in developing a comprehensive and strategic game plan for each scheduled contest throughout the season. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating upcoming opponents by breaking down game tapes, assisting in the preparation of scouting reports for the student-athletes, and advising the head coach on adjusting the game plan during contests.Administrative ResponsibilitiesThe coaching assistant will assist in the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the head coach, which includes team travel, contest scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, marketing, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program. Monitoring of Academic Progress of Student-AthletesThe coaching assistant, working in conjunction with the office of Student-Athlete Development, will support the academic success of the student-athletes. This includes, providing guidance and support (as necessary) checking class attendance, and organizing weekly and monthly (one on one) academic meetings with each student-athlete with the Head Coach and Assistant Coaches to track their progress by semester, by major, and by degree requirements.NCAA Rules Compliance The coaching assistant will be responsible for knowledge of, and adherence to, NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the Baseball program. To be eligible to recruit the coaching assistant must pass the NCAA Coaches Exam on an annual basis.Failure to comply with NCAA regulations can result in suspension w/out pay, termination, fines, institutional loss of scholarship and bans on post-season competition.Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.Special Notes:This is a part-time appointment.
