Posting Summary The Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives and Student Success provides leadership for the day-to-day activities of academic engagement and student success program within the Residential Learning and Academic Engagement unit in the Department of Residential Life. The Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives and Student Success position plays a critical role in the implementation of the strategic visioning, thinking, leadership, mission, and values of supporting the academic enterprise mission of The University of Vermont. Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Learning and Academic Engagement and working directly with the Director for the Department of Residential Life on special initiatives that supports the overall visioning of the unit, the Assistant Director provides leadership and support for the residential student experience and staff through the development and creation of effective, intentional and innovative initiatives and campus partnerships aligned with our Common Ground values. Working alongside the Assistant Director of Living Learning Programs both Assistant Directors work to contribute to developing and ensuring an enriched and connected residential experience for our more than 6, 000 residential students (note: UVM's residential life program is a 2-year residency program). The Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives and Student Success will directly supervise 5 Program Directors who will work to underscore our engagement, retention, academic student interventions, and assess all related initiatives that will complement the University experience. This position also helps assist with the coordination of our residential curriculum that supports everything that we do in Residential Life. Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Bachelor's degree with three to five years related work experience in student development and higher education with progressive experience in supervision and student support. Knowledge of the application of student development and community-building strategies. Effective written and oral communication skills adapted for work with students, families, campus partners, etc. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Able to balance competing priorities. Effective working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office, and Internet tools. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and fostering a collaborative multicultural environment. Desirable Qualifications Master's degree with five to seven years related work experience in student development and higher education, including supervision of administrative functions and relevant experience required. Knowledge of the application of student development and community building strategies. Expert knowledge of tools, processes and policies of general campus operations. Effective written and oral communication skills adapted for work with students, parents/families, campus partners, etc. Efficient in planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating. Demonstrate strong problem solving, organizational and analytical capabilities. Strong project and people management skills. Analyzes complex situations and anticipates issues. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Effective working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office, and Internet tools required. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice and fostering a collaborative multicultural environment required.
